I am amazed I found this site. I can't believe how many people are in such bad pain from fissures. I got one about 2 years ago, and it was unbearable. I was eating any pain medicine I could to make the pain stop and it made it harder. I finally went to doc and they gave me nitro ointment, which eventually cleared it up. I was lucky and it went away for a long time. Its back now, and heals and comes back about every month or two. I can't stand it.
ANY suggestions on how to heal it without a doc (no insurance) would be greatly appreciated. I still have the nitro and it does help, but not a cure. I am clueless here...diet suggestions, etc...I will take anything!

Sorry you are going through it, as the rest of us on here in one way or another, but you couldn't have found your way to a better place for information.
The going away and coming back is very common, especially if you don't stay on a 'regimen' of diet, sitz baths and so on. Read some of the old posts, as they are full of valuable help and cannot stress enough how important it is to read them.
Not everyone has healed with using nitro, in fact cures for this are about as varied as the people. The majority seem to land up having LIS (Lateral Internal Sphincterotomy), but there are others who have had great success with dilation, done by a CRS, or self dilating.
