Did you ever have a colonoscopy done, Juney?

no colonoscopy. i did have a barium xray of the upper GI and that was normal. no dr has ever thought a colonoscopy would be useful since the problem is visible thru anuscope and seems confined to the bottom part of the anal area. i'm starting to wonder though... when i see the GI specialist we'll be talking about a sigmoidoscopy. that might be good at least to put my mind at ease...

I am thinking about the sigmoidscopy too. I am wondering if this pocket of inflammation could be linked to Chrons or Ulcerative Colitis. My doctor did say that sometmes these diseases can be limited to the anus, so who knows?

Tootie,
If you don't have diarrhea and stomach pain, I doubt very much that you have CD or UC.

Juney
I agree, not much comfort in him not seing a fissure if you still feel the same pain. Is it pain during BM or during the day? The same glass feeling and/or blood?
I can't believe how much these butt/anal problems can destroy our lives...but Juney, don't give up. We are in this together Image

corsi - i actually haven't had blood with BM in months (or maybe even years). the glass feeling is still there, but definitely not as bad as it was in the beginning. it changes periodically i guess, that's why it's sooo frustrating. 2 1/2 years ago when i ripped the fissure i bled tons and almost cried everytime i went to the bathroom, the pain was so bad. but the 1st 2 surgeris kind of helped with that and actually before this past surgery i was rarely having the glass feeling and never seeing blood. so things have been really up and down in that aspect over the past few years. it's never been a good way for me to measure my progress unfortunately.
so the pain during BM isn't too bad, but then all day after i feel rawness and pain when sitting, and especially when standing up from a sitting position. it's like i can directly feel the wound inside the anal canal when i release the pressure after sitting. it's always been this way but i've never heard anyone else describe it the same.
tootie - have none of your drs ever recommended a sigmoid or colonoscopy? since your problem's gone on so long i'm thinking you should definitely do that! at least to rule other stuff out...
thank you guys for your support, i appreciate it so much! Image

I wonder if you have nerve pain, Juney? If they cant see anything it could be that the nerves down there have a strong memory for pain and are just firing habitually. I think that is part of my problem. I am starting a new mediciation-Zonegran this week to see if it can reduce the nerve pain. If you feel burning searing pain and they can't see any cause for it, it could be that. The other thing I wanted to mention is that I am takin celebrex for inflammation. I don't know if that might help you as well.
I should just bite the bullet and have a colon. done but all teh pooping and wiping will cause a set back that could take months to get better. Maybe a sigmoid would be a better place to start? I dont know if you have to do a cleanse for that or not?

I have had 2 sigs. For the first one with my workplace doctor, I only had to do an enema. For the second one (in 2007) with my then GI doc I had to do a complete cleanse, but I also had a barium enema later that same morning.

lecia - since my dr can actually see the inflammation i know it's not all just nerve pain. i guess it's reassuring that he can actually see something. so i know i'm not just going crazy. lol.
i wouldn't imagine a sig would require too much prep...definitely not as much as a colonoscopy would. i definitely couldn't do the colon prep either! that would make the inflammation so much worse. i'll talk to my new GI dr about it. i have a whole list of stuff to bring up to him. my appt's on the 20th.
