I still have Mayo as an option, Cheryl-thanks for the reminder!

I have some kind of connective tissue problem (similar to lupus). I got a hernia, recurrent hemmies, a kidney taken out, and a cyst removed from my neck. I don't know if these are all related or not but very possibly. Wounds on the outside seem to heal within normal limits except for mucosa of course.

The pain is both inside and outside and starts after a bm. I usually feel better as the day goes on. I still have to poop and then go lie down on my stomach for awhile. If the pain doesn't subside by 1 pm I usually take something since I have to go get my kids from school and don't want to be in pain around them more than I have to. Yeah, it is the same with me. It doesn't hurt so much while I sit but once I get up it sure hurts. But I do limit my sitting as much as I can. Still don't know how to drive lying down yet!

Is every day horrible for you now?

lecia, your daily experience sounds so similar to mine! the past few months i rarely sit unless i have to. the pain has always started just after BM and gets better throughout the day. i definitely avoid sitting for hours after BM now, in fact i usually eat breakfast while either standing or laying on my stomach. after a few hours i barely even notice it while i'm sitting, but as soon as i stand up i feel it again. like when i take the pressure off the wound i can feel it. right now it's been 12 hours since my BM and i'm sitting at the computer and i can feel the dull pain every time i shift positions.
i had no idea our pain was so similar! i hate to say, but that gives me even less hope since you've been dealing with this for so long with little relief. it's so frustrating. :( what, besides pain pills, has ever give you any hope that things will get better??

Please, please, don't let my situation cause you to have less hope. You have to remember my past. I have an underlying nerve injury that causes the pudendal nerve to keep firing when the area gets injured. I also fell on my tail bone and I have one leg that is an inch shorter than the other so my pelvis is out of whack making my nerve pathways and endings compromised. I had a very diffiult vag delivery with #2 and that along with falling down the stairs has made me an outlier in terms of healing. (not to mention my immune problems). So you see, you have much more going for you. I feel bad that my sharing with you made you feel worse. You will get better. Please don't let my complicated and long history of problems steal your hope at all. That is the last thing I want.

you're right, lecia, you've had other complications in addition to just the butt stuff. as far as i know, my problem is limited to the butt stuff and i know exactly when it started, ripping the fissure. so i guess it shouldnt' be so much of a mystery. i just need to find a dr who can help. thank you so much for sharing your story, don't feel bad about that at all! i'm glad you're having some better days lately. i've always felt so bad for your situation especially b/c of your young girls. Image thank you for all your kind words, advice, and sharing. you're a wonderful person to know.
and tabby - thanks for the hugs!! Image

Am I right to assume that your fissure has healed? and that it is this little inflammed wound/scar that gives you pain? If that is true, do you find any comfort in that at all?
I feel sorry for both of you girls Image Image

corsi - the dr said he doesn't see a fissure anymore but since my pain is exactly the same as it's always been, that's not much of a relief. Image
it's so baffling and frustrating. Image i'm praying the GI guy can offer more insight at the end of the month.

you may try consulting with a rectal surgeon. I know its difficult to go and see one, i was scared but these rectal surgeons can find the cause quickly as well. I had the same issue. He found two fissures deep in my rectum.
just my two cents
best regards

bernard - i've seen 3 rectal surgeons and had 3 surgeries. another surgery is definitely out of the question for me right now...
corsi - the CRS uses an anoscope every time i see him. the fissure or whatever the problem is hasn't been visible on the outside in awhile. he says the inflammation is about 1 inch into the anal canal. he uses a child-sized one b/c a regular one won't fit.
