pelvic floor Dysfunction....please chime in!!

Postby bigbabyboy » 01 Oct 2011, 14:11

Well, I am pretty convinced that I may have pelvic floor dysfunction. These are my symptoms, and I hope that someone can chime in with any comments or advice. Thanks.
Since having my son 10 months ago I have been in constant pain in the perenial area. I suffered a great trauma to that area during delivery which included forceps and a large episiotomy after many hours of pushing and having an enema. Since then, this is how I feel.
1. I know I had anal fissures and have been seeing a CRS. Since then I no longer have scraping pain or bleeding during bowl movements. However, my anal sphincter is still in spasm and very tight making it feel like my colon is constantly full. I have had botox twice, and it doesn't seem to feel any looser. I am wondering if it's not my anal muscle that needs the botox, but rather my perenium????
2. My perenium is tight and feels like there is a knot in it near my episiotomy., It burns and feels very achy.
3. sex is too painful. It feels so tight; which doesn't make sense to me because I had a 9 pound baby, you would think it would be looser.
4. My lower back is constantly sore and when I lay in bed on my side, my hips feel very achy like they aren't in the right place almost.
I've been doing some reading online about PFD and the symptoms sound so much like mine. I just hate to get LIS to find out that even though my anal muscles are too tight, that they aren't the only ones that are in spasm and have it not work. Can anyone chime in if you experience PFD. I am going to make an appointment on Monday to see my doctor and get an exam done. I'm hoping maybe a specialist or physio will help because this pain has to end.

It does sound like PFD, but on saying that, my fissure caused the same pain that you describe. When I got those spasms the whole area tightened up. LIS did cure that! And it is only a small op. If you had it done and it cured the anal spasm, it might only cure that but it might cure all of it!

That's true Val. Thank you. I like how you make it seem like LIS isn't that big of a deal...It's actually comforting to me. :) Makes me less nervous if it comes to that. and you're right, LIS would at least make the anal spasms go away, and if I ended up needing some physio for my perenium that might not be so bad. Last night was awful. I had diarreah like 8 times. No idea where it came from, but it was awful. :( Since having my son, my digestive system is totally different than before. I had no idea pregnancy and labour could do this. I'll let you know what my doctor says. I think I'll make an appointment :)

Aw, diarrhoea with a fissure is no fun - ouch! Hope it all settles down quickly Image
It might be just the fissure playing havoc with your insides! I had the same thing - never constipated in my life, got a fissure, then wham I suddenly get it!Although I think it is just spasms feeling like constipation.
Then you mess with your diet, take every stool softener and herbal "remedies" ever heard of and end up with a badly messed up tummy!!
I'll always remember when I first had my fissure taking too much MOM and having to go 17 times in a few hours!!!

One question for you bigbabyboy--are you breastfeeding? Because that will cause painful sex too. It lowers your estrogen and your vaginal tissues won't stretch like they should, which makes you feel tight and it HURTS! I had that every time I was breastfeeding and the gynecologist gave me estrogen cream to help.
I had three near-nine-pound babies--the biggest was 8 lbs 15 ounces--1 ounce shy of nine pounds! Yikes, no wonder we have issues.
Anal spasms suck. I haven't had perfect results from my LIS, but it has definitely stopped the spasm pain for me. I didn't think I was having spasms before the surgery--they didn't feel like what everyone else was describing on here--but in retrospect, I was definitely having spasms. It would hurt to sit down, especially after a BM. It was so tight it felt like there was an orange stuck up there. Sitting on a heating pad (microwaveable kind) did help, but it was temporary relief only.
I hope you're feeling better soon!

I actually stopped breastfeeding about 3 months ago. It was just too much to handle. It was making me very dehydrated even though I would drink water all day, every day. My constipation has gotten a little better since stopping breastfeeding. I used estrogen cream for about 2 months and it helped a little bit. Maybe it's taking a little longer for my body to heal because after I had my son, I had multiple infections "down there" I never really had an over the top sex drive to begin with, so maybe with time it will slowly go back to where it was. Hopefully when we decide to have another baby, things will go a bit different. Don't think my body was equipped to handle a nine pounder. Shoulda known he'd be a big boy...I'm 5'1'' and my husband is 6'2'' eeeekkk lol

Wow bigbaby--after reading back through your posts I see that you did have a really bad delivery. I was lucky to escape my big babies with only episiotomies (oh, and that damn fissure!).
Of course you shouldn't let it stop you from having more kids, but I wonder if you could find a doctor who would be open to scheduled c-sections (if that's what you would want). My husband and I are done having kids now, three daughters being enough for us, but I told him I would definitely want a c-section after having fissure problems. Although I've seen people on this board who got their first fissure after a c-section!
So I don't know if there's any guaranteed way to avoid further problems. And maybe you'll have a smaller baby anyway, next time.
I'm 5'7 but small framed and my husband is 6'3. I'm glad we didn't have boys--they might've been monsters since all three girls weighed close to nine pounds!

I'm feeling really good, knock on wood. Haven't had any pian for about a week!! Spasms seem to be gone. I felt this way after botox last time too though. It was rough for the first week or so and then it's like it kicks in and I feel great. Fissure seems to be healing from what I can see. So, hopefully if I can keep the spasms at bay..I might be able to be done with this. My botox wears off around Christmas time, so I'm hoping I'll still feel ok by then. Thanks for asking!!
