Hi, first please try not to panic, although fissures are extremely painful, extremely, they are not life threatening. It's always best to see your doctor though. Self diagnosis isn't alway a great idea. Find out for sure what you have so you'll know how to treat it. There are so many butt problems that have similar symptoms so like I said find a good CRS and they will be able to tell you what's going on. In the meantime try to drink more liquids, add fiber and a stool softener to your diet and keep the area clean. Try not to strain when you have a bm and don't sit on the toilet to long. If you are getting spasms sit on a warm heating pad or in a warm bath, it really helps. Stay positive and breathe, stress only makes it worse. Hope this helps. Suzy

Hi, it sounds like a good plan. One caution, Metamucil is okay, it will make your stool softer but larger but if you don't drink enough liquid it can also make it harder to pass so drink lots of water throughout the day. Good luck Suzy.
