This just in....It is good for treating piles-however, people with asthma, sinus,cold or a runny nose are advised to avoid this vegetable because it is a cooling food(on the body's system). It is suitable for Ushna (hot) bodies (or don"t eat if you have a fever, chills or a cold) great for diabetics or people with hypertension, heart issues.
Suran yam Nutritional Benefits:
Suran yam or otherwise called as Elephant yam and it is one of the
popular vegetable and it is being used in many of the delicious Indian
cuisines, recipes and dishes. Elephant yam is originated from Southeast
Asia and it is grown and found all over the world including Malaysia,
Phillipines, Indonesia, and it is very popular and edible vegetable in
India, and in the States of Maharastra, Orissa, Andhra Pradesh, and
Tamil Nadu. Suran yam Scientifically called as Amorphophallus
Paeoniifolius.
The elephant yam is an edible tuber that looks like elephant foot and it
is very popular edible vegetable in Asia, Africa and United States of
America. The Suran Yam is enriched with carbohydrates, essential
proteins, and high content of dietary fiber. It comprises of minerals
namely zinc, copper, selenium, phosphorous, potassium, and magnesium,
and it is termed as slimming food due to the presence of rich content of
dietary fiber, it aids to weight loss.
Suran yam Nutritional Benefits include; as suran yam is good source of
fiber, it lowers cholesterol and helps to lose weight. It prevents
clotting of blood due to the presence of anticoagulant properties. It is
considered as one of the good food source for diabetic patients, because
the glycemic index of suran yam is very low. Due to the presence of
Vitamin B6 and B complex constituents, it helps to increase the levels
of estrogen hormone in women and provides relief from premenstrual
syndrome. It regulates bowel movement and prevents constipation and
improves metabolism due to the presence carbohydrates and fiber.
Elephant yam is very well used for the treatment of piles. It provides
relief from hypertension as it produces cooling effect to the body.

I"m going to call and check out health food stores in my area and Indian grocery stores too, frozen section as well. Even a philipeno (sorry for the spelling) grocery store can carry it. Great . I picking it up today.:o

You've all sold it to me - I'm off to look for the Suran Yam in the UK!! .......Best leave it a few days though as I've a stinking cold and my sinus' are pretty blocked!!

I was having a hard time finding it myself, I eventually find it at an Asian Grocery food store, about an hour away by bus, I will see if I can get a lift there..Happy Hunting, and Eto get better from your cold..Image

I have a fissure now for 3 months and now I have horrible flare up of external hemmies and probably internal ones too. The past few days I've been constipated even though Ive taken stool softeners. All of you that were looking for the elephant yam... Did you find it? Did it help you and are you healed?? Thanks!
