Unusual Fissure

Postby mountainman76 » 22 Jan 2014, 14:10

Hi Everyone,

I was on here a few years back and I had an anal fissure at the usual 6 o'clock place and it healed nicely.

Sadly since July last year I have been in agony after a normal bm that felt like my insides were ripping out, even though it was normal movement.

I've had really bad anus pruritus since and painful bm's

Finally got a proctoscopy and the specialists first words were 'hmmmm'

Turns out I have 3 fissures. One at 6 o'clock (normal) and one at 3 o'clock and one at 9 o'clock (which he said is unsual)

Now he thinks I have crohn's, even though I dont have diahrrea, any other pains than the fissure and def not losing weight, healthy appetite etc etc.

Just wondering if anyone has had the unusual positioned fissures without having crohn's?

I'm on Diltiazem now to heal the fissures (even though I used Nifedipine last time that worked ok - I asked why the switch and he said better success rate...is this true?)

My first doctor gave me a steroid to cure the problem and it worked very well, then four months later it the fissure returned with a vengeance. She gave it to me again it worked then six months later it returned again, not as bad as before but then the pain got worse and I asked for a refill they gave me two refills. It didn't help that much and the problem got worse. I then decided to got to a specialist and they said all they only use nitroglycerin to treat a fissure that didn't work at all. But what I'm trying to get at here is that the steroid probably made my problem worse because I found out later that the dosage of too much steroids can thin the lining of the intestine making it weaker. The specialist didn't really help the problem, he prescribe the nitroglycerin ointment to me that didn't work. I then went to a colon rectal surgeon that specialized in fissures and hemorrhoids he fixed me up. It required surgery but it worked and I feel great now good luck with your problem.

Hi there, traditional fissures appear always at 6 or 12. When fissures appear in a different position, normally is an indication of an underlying problem like crohn's or IBS. That's why maybe your doctor wants to do further investigation or testing.

Hi - I have a fissure that I am almost positive is in the 9 o'clock position although I haven't yet had my CR dr appointment. I know that it's not directly at 12 or 6 however. I will let you know what I find out. I, too, have nearly no symptoms of Crohn's or IBS. Hardly ever have diarrhea, and the only real "symptom" I have is sometimes an urgent need to go first thing during the day. Let me know if you find out anything more about yours.

Sooooo. I used the Diltiazem and got bad burns and white blisters. Turns out approx 0.5% of people who use it have alergic reaction and that was me so switched back to Nifedipine.

The burning and itching has stopped and the BM's are becoming more bearable and no blood.

Looks like its working.

I dont think I am goign to go for the colonoscopy as I have zero other symptoms of Chrohn's and if these fissures heal I'll wait and see if it happens again.
