"Healed" fissure sensations

Postby Alyssa » 29 Jul 2014, 14:46

I had my fissure for two months, and its been almost 4 months since its been healed, how long does it take for your anus to get back to normal sensation/ no pain? Longer than the fissure itself?

For those of you who have healed, do you still have tenderness when you touch the area (outside or in) or have stinging pain when you wipe, add water, ointment or have a BM? How long did it last?

Its been more than a year after my botox which healed me, and I still have small issues.
Nerves can take up to two years to heal.

Give it time :-)

JHH,

You have small issues but mine are almost everyday; I don't get a break from being in pain! My anus burns and it feels as though it is not as stretchy as it once was; when I push, not straining I feel as though the skin stretches and sometimes it bleeds. I feel sore, I have no visible irritation or hemorrhoids that could be causing me any issues. I have also ruled out an allergic reaction to ointments since I have not been using nothing on my butt but continue to have a sore bum! I have pain inside and out...and it is tender to the touch.

Did you experience that too?

Alyssa,
I'm also healed(or 95%), and i still have some pain everyday. Some days are good and i feel just a little sore, but other days i have the 'shooting pain' several times. It still burns after a BM, but not much. But i can always - always - feel that there is something there. But it's not pain, just discomfort. Have you talked to your CRS? if you're bleeding, it might be a small retear or a hemmie? I have internal hemmies and they used to bleed, but not after i started using stool softener.
In my case, my fissure is doing more damage mentally.. My routines have taken over my life completely :o
When it comes to the skin around your anus, I've read that it's normal that it gets alittle tight. Are you nervous/scared when you go for a BM? I've noticed that it's extremely difficult for me to have a BM if i'm scared O_O So i try to relax as much as possible.

Alyssa, no not quite the same, but still lots of different sensations in the months after healing. Still to this day, it doesnt feel like it used to before. I think maybe we get focused on every little sensation now, where we just disregarded it before the fissure. Also I think stress and fear of retears can mess with our heads, and make us more butt aware, and maybe even tighten up the muscle.

Hi Alyssa, I'm in exactly the same situation as JHH, slightly different history & recovery process, but nonetheless, experiencing all the same issues and no, things don't quite feel the same as before but it's a whole lot better. I constantly hope that one day I can actually forget about all this and maybe I will, but I don't think it's going to happen overnight and I'm now nearly 2.5 years on since my fissure developed...it takes so much time and yes, as JHH states, it's hard to shift the focus off that area - any sensation brings a lot of horrible memories back for me and it's hard to get past that mental fixation with it all, but nothing is ever as bad......these things certainly do mess with our heads and I have more issues now dealing with those thoughts and feelings than anything physical going on! I have to totally agree with everything he says but you do reach a point where you can feel things are so much better....As Soey says too, this thing does far more damage mentally and I use Acupuncture & Meditation, deep breathing techniques these days to try to stay as calm and relaxed as possible and also when going for BMs, which to date, can still be a little apprehensive at times.
Chronic Fissure diagnosed December 2011
Healed by Diltiazem around Feb 2013
Anal Fistula followed burst abscess in June 2012
2 internal troublesome piles remain & suspected, but undiagnosed, ongoing Levator Ani type symptoms & flare-ups

Hi A,
I think ETO and J are right, it takes a while for everything back there to settle down. It can take up to 2 years for the skin to gain strength again.... Now, you say that you are in pain with every BM? You sound similar to me.... This is the problem I have. I have high resting pressure, so I re-tear, and possibly get small new fissures which sometimes cannot be seen. This is why I was so confused, as my last CRS kept insisting I was healed... But I knew that I was re-tearing and still getting some kind of pain or irritation on every BM. Have you had a pressure test? What happens is every time you tear, part heal, then re-tear the muscle over works and becomes tighter, which in turn causes the high resting pressure. I'm not sure if this is the case with you, or you just need more time for things to settle down. I do wish you luck and I'm praying you can lead a normal pain free life. I was chatting to a colleague the other day in the office, and she said I looked miserable. I told her about my a fissure hell, and she told me that she'd had one for 6 months. She said that it did heal, but she still gets twinges now, a year or so on.... So it does take time. You will get there, sending you my prayers. Xxxxxxxx

Alyssa - perhaps the fact that you sometimes have blood might mean you are re-tearing as Rachael describes?

I kind of feel that is the case (little retears) as well but the doctors don't see anything... its so upsetting for me. I am meeting with a Chronic pain specialist on Monday so I will talk to her more about this test. What is the name of the test that measures high resting pressure?

Alyssa, In my case, When the doctors took a look to see if they could find a fissure, they couldnt see anything. And they tried to use some kind of a 'scope', but it was too painful. Different doctors tried 3-4 times, but i couldnt handle the pain. But they basically told me it was probobly a hemmie causing the pain. I was 100% sure i had a fissure, so i had a proper exam(CRS of course). Went under general anesthesia, because i was too nervous about the exam, and the muscles wouldn't relax. My CRS was down there for 20 minutes with a scope before she could find the fissure. These fissures can be really hard to find, unless it's done with that scope-thing(can't remember what it's called).

Have you had this kind of check? A doctor will probobly not be able to find a small fissure. And doctors are not careful enough, which might cause more damage..
