Saw CRS today

Postby hurtinend » 19 May 2015, 17:34

He said I had anal cracks, but not a full on fissure, said the mucosa looked angry.

Prescribed diltiazem with lidocaine 2%, only wash with warm water after bm, no coffee, no alcohol, no spices, 1 tsp Metamucil daily, oh and no citrus fruits......

He said no problem you will be fine. God I hope the diltiazem with lidocaine kills the pain, the last 4 days have been the worst ever, and the exam hurt like hell. Don't think these specialists appreciate the pain we are in, I currently cannot sit for more than 10 minutes at a time.

No alcohol????? But it kills some pain.......I know..... Biggest fear is my work, cannot concentrate, so much I have responsibilities for, oh god cut out my colon, I know.....

So sorry to hear that your exam was so painful. I have a CRS here that won't do a scope unless you are sedated (so the area is more relaxed and doesn't tear, theoretically. And so it's more humane), BUT it is a very long wait to get that done. I went with a different CRS afterall anyway, but that's a whole other story that is posted all over this forum. lol.

You are on the West Coast am I right? Can I ask who you saw there? I used to live in Burnaby and Coquitlam but saw a general surgeon at the time for other issues (hemmies). He did a good job but the bedside manner was unpredictable. Sometimes he was very kind, other times not so much. Overall, a good Guy though.

I am sure you know from reading on here that Doctor's don't always have the best advice...just wanted to chime in to be careful with the fiber as it can make larger and more painful BMs for some. Not sure what you are taking now but many like Restrolax/Lax a Day and Magnesium, myself included.

I hope you recover quickly from the exam. I am on the fence about when to go to my next follow up as they just pull so darn hard to see things I can just imagine a RIP and all my progress gone!

Thank you

I'm in Vancouver, saw Pezim

Seems nice, very knowledgeable, I dunno, I saw him 4 years ago, said I seem worse now, but I'm not currently needing surgery for fissure....I just don't know anymore, I've tried all sorts of diet and fibre options, I think I know what to do. Never tried Diltiazem so guess I will give it a few weeks. He told me to write down everything I eat and drink, and relate my next day results

Hurtin - so sorry to hear about your pain. I wanted you to know that I have used diltiazem with some success (knock on wood). A couple things to know from my experience - it took me a few weeks for it to "kick in" and another month to really make a real difference. After 6/7
Weeks I was still in pain...but after 10 it was a whole different world and I really felt like I was getting much better. So give it time. I applied with a rectal applicator 3x a day and really got a lot in there. Second thing - I developed an itch and a rash every

Oops...submitted before I finished.

I developed a mild rash - the way I dealt with the rash was to apply a small amount of cream that I mixed myself - a mixture of canesten and cortisone cream (no prescription needed). Canesten is used for yeast infections and cortisone is a steroid. I found that using this sparingly for a couple days in a row removed any rash. You don't want to use steroid cream too much up your butt..but in small quantities it should be ok.
Hope some of that helps.

Wishing you continued strength, determination and good wishes for a speedy recovery.
