weird poop patterns

Postby ManiacalLavender » 16 Jul 2023, 18:13

I've always had a weird time with my bms due to a variety of reasons but after leaving the army they've become the worst they've ever been.
for example today, no bms all day and then after taking half the dose of a magnesium laxative 3 bms in the span of an hour, pure neon yellow acidic liquid shooting out of me at lightning speed.
I'm not currently on a constant prescription medicine for my ibs, just whenever I have symptoms I can take some stuff (i don't currently remember what they're called), I should contact my doctor probably
just checking if anyone else is experiencing something similar rn
:thanx:

May I ask why you took the laxative?

my surgeon suggested I take it regularly for softer bms but and here's where I'm guilty, I don't.

Doctors usually prescribe for the "average" patient, so yours may not know that a normal dose of laxative might cause you to have diarrhea instead. I have IBS-d, so only take a third of the dose most people take to clear the bowels out before a colonoscopy. I have only learned to do that through trial and error though, and many bouts of pure yellow acidic projectile liquid. I always laugh at the label that describes the medication causing the stool to become very soft (even on a third of the dose, the drug takes effect on me much sooner than the label says it should and much more powerfully!). Have you had constipation in the past? Or hard or dry stools? If so, then you really have to find something that keeps things soft, like your surgeon suggests. If your IBS is of the "d" variety like mine though, you should have a word with him/her and let them know what has happened after taking their advice. He/she really should know about this and advise you accordingly.

gotcha
I've had hard stools, dry stools and big stools (not within the same day or week) and of course my body's favorite response to anything at all diarrhea

i should contact my gastroenterologist
