Hi and thanks to everyone for sharing their experiences. A little over a year ago I got a hemorrhoid from a strenuous workout. The hemorrhoid shrunk but the itching remained and then I found out I had fissures. I'm a fit 50 year old who eats only organic and for the most part a vegetarian diet. I also juice vegetables and drink lots of water. My doctor has prescribed numerous medications and so far, other than shrinking the hemorrhoid, nothing has helped with the fissures. Before the fissures became chronic he sent me to a proctologist and she ended up doing a colonoscopy. She also prescribed another heavy duty hemorrhoid medicine that worked great for hemorrhoids but did nothing for the fissures.
From what I gather reading others' posts most people experience extreme pain and have problems with constipation. My main problem with fissures is the incessant itching. And trying not to scratch is like not running from a hornets nest. The worst is being woken up in the middle of the night and having to tend to the situation. After trying a number of various things such as Benadryl, Witch Hazel, Coconut Oil, Tea Tree Oil, Epson Salt, Silver Water, Mentholatum and Desitin I found that Calamine Lotion helps keep the itch away for a little while longer than anything else.
I saw my doctor today and he wants to send me to a wound specialist. My question to my fellow sufferers is, have you ever been sent to a wound specialist for this problem? My doctor told me I would be one of the few people in the waiting room who did not have Diabetes. My sister thinks that he is misleading me and I need to go back to a proctologist. All I know is at this point I would go to a Witch Doctor if I thought it would help.
I do plan on trying the other remedies mentioned in some of the other posts. I think I'll start with the Dr. Wheatgrass Balm.
I'm so glad I found this site. I have been researching for weeks and tonight was the first time it came up.
