Yadz,
I'm so sorry. This is a hard time...but I think it's still too early to judge your outcome. The truth is, we may not know for months whether the surgery works. But stay positive! The odds are really good that you'll get better.
You're hardly being a drama queen. Believe me, we all know how hard this is mentally. You go through so much...and the surgery is terrifying until you get through it, and once you do you just want the ordeal to end. I know what you mean about this problem sucking away what should be the best years of your life. I was only 28 when I got my first fissure, and I waited five years to do the surgery. I had good years where it didn't bother me much though. But I finally became determined to put a stop to this so it doesn't ruin my quality of life forever, and I WILL stop it, even if it means more than one surgery.
I think you're doing the right things, taking the Movicol, drinking the water, etc. But if you think the bran seems abrasive, drop it for a softer fiber supplement. Part of the problem is that surgeons give us unrealistic estimates of healing times. Some people do heal really fast and they are very lucky. But the reality for most people is that it takes months to heal and there likely will be setbacks and an up/down healing process.
Hang in there! And feel free to vent here...it helps tremendously.
