Hi my surgeon has requested that I have a CT Scan to make sure he hasn't missed anything, but I don't know if it is of my abdomen or rectum. I had rectal surgery just over 2 weeks ago and he removed a polyp and chronic fissure. I understand that sometimes a dye called contrast is used to get a clearer image of the area being scanned. Contrast is expelled in your stools and I am concerned that it will make them rock hard. Does anybody have any experience of this? I know when my husband had a barium meal his stool was so hard he had to break it up because it wouldn't flush away. If I have to have the dye, then I shall refuse the scan. Surely the doctor wouldn't expect me to take the dye knowing my condition?
