Mine looked like a blister and there were times I could see some white underneath the skin. Maybe yours is a simple case that will respond well to antibiotics and you won't need surgery.

I know it is a let down after feeling better and more in control of this to have a new symptom but you are finding it quickly and it may not be anything complicated.

Are you going to get insurance through your works COBRRA program? If you are in school a lot of schools offer some kind of health insurance program though I know you are more concerned with missing school. I bet this will all be sorted out quicker than you think.

Juney, I'm so sorry you've got to go through this. Just the words fistula and abcess scare the life out of us! But really, its not as bad as it sounds. You've gone through all this pain with the fissure, so you know exactly what pain is! Maybe once they've sorted it out it will be the end of all your problems with this thing once and for all.
Good luck!

thanks everyone! i've made an appt w/ a specialist outside of kaiser for tomorrow. it's gonna be expensive but i'm curious to see what they'll say. i'm also still planning to call kaiser as soon as they open this morning.

lecia - i was planning to try and get individual kaiser coverage after i quit my job, but with the amount of problems i've had this year i'm worried i won't get approved. we'll see...i'll keep everyone posted! right now i'm trying to stay positive but it's so hard not to imagine worst case scenarios ... :pale:

well it's not an abcess, fistula, or any kind of infection thank god. the CRS thinks that for some reason the skin tag removal didn't heal up as it should have. it's been a year since i had it removed but she said it happens sometimes. she also said that's why she never removes skin tags during surgery. unfortunately my surgeon never warned me of this...
anyway, so there's a small area under or near where the skin tag was that's never quite healed. that's where the pus/mucus is coming from now. she's seen it each time she's examined me but i guess never made the connection. i actually let her do the anoscope exam this time, b/c she wanted to see the area better. ahhhh that hurt, my anus isn't used to being stretched that much. then she applied some silver nitrate to the unhealed area. OMG i can't tell you how much that hurt!!! when i stood up i started pouring sweat and nearly passed out. she said an application of this every couple weeks MIGHT help the area finally heal. if not, then my only other option is to go back in for surgery to excise the whole area, clean it out, and basically start fresh in hoping it heals. otherwise i can just live with it.
so nothing too great but not too bad to report.
i'm in so much pain right now from the exam and the silver nitrate stuff. i took the rest of the day off work and i've been laying on my stomach on the couch for the last 3 hours. i'm hoping this pain subsides and this damn thing will finally heal. i have another appt for the same procedure in 3 weeks. not looking forward to it.

Oh Juney - I am so sorry to hear that you are in pain again :( :( !!!
What a week for most of us Image ...I really hope that this procedure will help you heal since maybe that was the cause of all that pain you had even after 2 LIS surgeries  ?! Oh geeezzzzzz- is there ever end to all of this suffering Image !!!!!???? Now I will definitely rethink skin tag removal on my part :pale: :pale: :pale:. Maybe I should just learn to live with irritation - to h@ll with it all !!!!
Did she gave you any pain medication ? I can only imagine your frustration - I really hope that you will heal completely after this one procedure and not need another one Image . Rest as much as you can ....

hi Juney,
I'm so sorry to hear about your problem. Please still go see the specialist tomorrow. Any pus or drainage is not a good sign. It does mean infection. Don't trust that woman!! The silver nitrate will cauterize the wound, but it will not disinfect the area. Is there any way you could squirt a diluted iodine in the wound cavity?
I don't mean to freak you out or anything, but better safe than sorry, as I already did the abscess thing. DO NOT leave the specialists office without a presecription for Flagyl or metronidazole and a wound swab so the can figure out what bacteria is infecting the area.
I read that you're quitting your job, but I still really think you should drop Kaiser. They are completely incompetent when it comes to these things, at least in my experience. Try to get blue cross or something like that. I fully blame to drs at Kaiser for letting things get out of hand with my rear. Like you, I pointed out the abscess for months as well as the lack of healing, and they did nothing except write in my files that I had a new fissure each time I went. Can you believe it???? It's like they had no memory at all. Even after suffering with this thing and the non-healing wound after the surgery, they wrote in my file that it was a new fissure!!
I don't want to freak you out, but your symptoms do worry me as that is what my rear looked like when my abscess began to erupt, and Kaiser is really a horrible place to get these things treated.
