Hey, it really sounds like you're having a *major* "Bob bit me!" day! I know you've probably been in too much pain to even sit at a computer and type! But when you can, let us know what steps you've taken so far so we can all chime in with what we feel will help you most...

hiya,
to my surprise last night, sitting on a chair at a computer wasnt as bad
(seems like the more i squished my bum onto the chair .. the less spasms i felt)
wasnt until i got up to go lay down ... it felt like a major party down there and like someone was poking the party people with a pencil .. the sharp jolts OMG i was ready to tear my hair out.
Ive just come back from work (luckily the spasms disappeared in the day which was all good, they were slight tingling in the morning) but i am dreading the night .. havent had a BM or the need to have one yet as i dont go often .. constipation but I will try a hot bath tonight and add salt like others have recommended and ensure my bottom is well and dry when i get out, hopefully this works.
Next steps - to buy the baby wipes everyone is mentioning
I have a specialist appt in a months time (as i would rather wait for someone who knows her stuff to say .. YEP you got fissure or haemmy & understand instead of going to someone I am not familiar with and become uncomfortable)
I have already picked up great ideas from the lovely people on this site and I really really realllly thank everyone for posting on this site.

Hi,
If you're constipated...that is a MAJOR reason why you are having such a time right now! Cut out the dairy and increase the fruits and veggies as soon as you can (today) and drink plenty of water. You may have already done this, but constipation will only make your fissure worse!! Don't avoid going to the bathroom...the longer a stool sits in your colon the harder and more painful(&damaging) it gets!

I am glad you get some relief from the spasms at times and you have an appointment to see a specialist!
I wanted to let you know something that helps me go to the bathroom. I take a fish oil and flax seed oil supplement. This really helps to lubricate the stool so it passes more comfortably.
We definitely want you to be going to the bathroom more often with less effort. Fiber and probiotics and water will be some of your best friends to help with this.
There is a new prescription medication that it supposed to help with chronic constipation but I am sure you and your doctor will want you to try some of these other things first.
I know some people have used a small dose of senna to help stimulate the bowels but I don't know a lot about it so I wouldn't necessarily recommend it but it might be something to look into.
In the meantime, take the baths, do some deep breathing when the spasms come. I do Lamaze breathing that I used during labor to help.
Definitely ask your doctor about the cream-I use dialetezem and it seems to be helping though healing is slow.....I was reading that healing from a fissure can take 6-8 weeks to heal even after surgery so I think understanding that this can take awhile helps you let go of expecting to be cured overnight or in a week like I was hoping!!
My main goal now is to protect the fissure. I put some A&D ointment which is a baby rash cream/skin protectorant right on the fissure before I go to the bathroom to help keep it from opening back up. I have had more bleeding this week which bums me out but I am globbing on that ointment! I wonder if KY jelly would work better. You know that lubricant they use at the doctors when they do your paps?
I know what you mean about being so scared of going to the bathroom. For awhile I had to make sure my husband was home so in case I fainted from the pain or bled out I would have someone to take me to the hospital. That never happened but it sure feels like you are being ripped apart!
Let us know if you need anything-support is so important and these guys know a lot! Would you feel comfortable giving us your first name?

prunes and prune juice are your friends.
don't forget to get some.
put them in your cereal and graze on them like a snack.

Hello everyone =)

:hi: gorgeous people
Its been a few days since ive had a BM (damn constipation!!)
I have now been blessed with waking up a zillllllion times during the night to pee (and last night i thought i was getting stabbed feeling that i had to stop midstream coz of the pain) then getting back into bed with lovely pains (the bladder infection pain mixed with a kidney pain + muscle pain) .. oh the JOYS ..
During the day at work i felt so sick not knowing what on earth is occuring from my stomach down
I am worried im going to strike an earthquake when i eventually do a BM .. yeahhh cant wait
Although my specialists appt is in 21 days, i couldnt wait any longer, plucked up the courage and went to see a local doctor
She sent urine sample to be analysed, I am also getting a blood test done tomorrow to check my thyroid and iron levels (i bet im still anemic) and other things in my body and then .....
i had the dreaded exam ... YUP ... what i thought was going to be a 'have xrays or ultrasound' turned into my worst thought come true...
she said 'i need to examine your bum'
i think the mortified look Image on my face said it all Image
she checked my poor sore bottom and said 'You have a fissure'
well, i have never been so shocked yet relieved that i know what it definately is.
I was prescribed a cream which is to heal 'Rectogesic' ?
I am also to use Dyphalac (i think im spelling it right) to soften BM and take fibre and eat a lot of veggies & fibre foods.
I am to try this for 3 weeks and if it doesnt work, I have to go back for other options (lets hope it gets better as i dont want surgery)
Lecia:
i really feel for you, you are going through so much Image but your advice with the hot baths works wonders Oh and the breathing, i can definitely say that i feel like a pregnant women breathing HEEE HEEEE HOOO HOOOO & i breath soooo much that i get so dizzzy and nearly fall off the toilet LOL but yep breathing does help (i think when i get married and have kids, i will have the breathing downpat hahha)
You're correct in saying it feels like you're getting ripped apart and the blood only confirms it. I dread the doing the deed but the aftermath (the spasmy party down there) must be the worse.
I havent heard of Senna, is it a drink or cream?
I think I will stock up with some baby cream's next time im shopping at BIGW, anything that helps a baby's bottom must be great for us
Lecia, I really hope you get better, as if labor isnt enough for a woman and then you get a fissure! AND .. thank you once again for the kind words, it really helps to talk to other who are experiencing the SAME thing
I had the courage to tell my best friend and although he feels for what im going through, it didnt stop him cracking the bum jokes .. oh well, he made me laugh even though i know its not a funny matter
Hugh,
i try to drink water but will admit that im drinking a bit more than what im used to .. although im still constipated and havent gone in days, i dont want to force it (i think thats whats caused the fissure in the first place .. forcing something that wasnt ready to be released)
i am changing my diet habits (yes im taking your advice) but the dairy i had no idea .. BUT i have cut drinking hot chocolates and replaced with water(and cordial) Baby steps for me eheheh but thank you for edging me on :alien:
Question: is it Hugh or Kim? sorry dont wanna offend if im getting it wrong
Happyass,
ewwww the prune juice eww i can still taste it from this morning but nonetheless i will still drink it (that and the fact its so damn expensive by the bottle LOL) havent tried eating them though but i will think about trying one and see .. baby steps ..
this is for everyone ... Image you guys are the best!!!
OH, one question (sorry if its silly) but how do you all get an avatar?

Hey Dee
Im glad you finally went to the Dr and got a diagnosis.. I think I can help you alot here as we are in the same country, what state are you in?
I was first given rectogesic to try, and even though it didnt work for me (as i was too far gone) i hold great hopes for you... id go the whole hog and insert it atleast 3-4 times a day, it may give you headaches, try and bare with it if you can, if the headaches get too back just lessen the amount a bit.. if the headaches are unbearable, get off that and ask your Dr. for the Npfedine (sp?)
Eat lots of fruits, green vegies, high fibre breads and cereals and steer clear of all fatty processed foods.
There is also a stool softener i get at the chemist called sorbitol or sorbilax, you could take say 20 mls morning and night, its a sugar based substance so it is not bowel addictive, it just softens the BM.. makes for a less painfull exit!
I totally understand your pain at night, i suffered the same too!
My thoughts are with you, dont worry, you have all of us here, we will help you get to good health..

Hi Cheryl :hi:
I'm in Sydney =)
Yes the doctor prescribed me 'Duphalac' i think thats how its spelt(cant read her writing properly) and she said it is to soften the stool
if i find it too potent or not working, i will try what you have suggested
i do hope Rectogesic works as the doc said im still in early stages and thinks i will heal (fingers crossed)
The doc did say headaches may come about but i'll do whatever it takes to get better :)
I eat a LOT of veggies but dont eat much bread (but going to start wholegrain)
I dont drink much water but i always aim to drink more than the last time but i can only handle no more than 1ltr a day sometimes less, i just cant seem to drink with gust
This is a great forum and to think, i stumbled on this accidentally when i was going through a spasm and came on the net to find out what a haemarroid was .. low and behold .. i found this site..
and you have gone through A LOT ..
May the Lord bless you for alll the good you've done! (and thanks for sharing with everyone your experiences .. i have enjoyed reading yours and others posts) <-- and i have learnt HEAPS heheh
There are really good people on here!!

Hey Dee,
I am glad you are seeing a good doctor who is giving you some treatment options. I so hope that cream does wonders for you!
What kind of work do you do?
I am a little worried about you not going to the bathroom for so long! What is normal for you? I have read that it is optimal to go every day or at least every other day. The senna is a tablet that comes from the senna plant that at a small dose is a mild laxative. We have a tea over here that is a mild laxative called "Smooth Move." Isn't that hilarious.
Do you have the urge to go but just can't get it out or is it that you don't feel like you need to? If you have the urge but can't get it out it is probably too hard. If you don't have the urge I think your bowels are not moving properly and signalling the brain that it is time to go. It is rather a sophisticated system for what it has to do!
One thing I thought of is when babies get constipated or impacted, the doctors recommend a glycerin suppository to help soften up the stool a bit and provide the signal that it is time to go. I don't know how irritating it would be to the fissure but it may be something to ask your doctor about. It would be easier to use than an enema which requires putting that long tip in. Just something to think about and ask your doctor.
If anyone needs something over the counter here like the A&D ointment or tea just let me know and I can send it off. I sell on Ebay some so I am always sending my husband to the post office for me!
Hang in there,
lecia Image
