LIS for me!!!!!!

Postby alpinestrawberry » 22 Feb 2011, 11:51

Just got back from my appointment....it was nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be. It helps that I was having a good fissure day, things are fairly healed up right now and so the exam didn't cause me any pain.
Actually the doctor couldn't see a tear at all, but from my symptoms and because of how tight my muscle felt, he agreed to do the surgery!!!!! Image
I like the doctor and I feel confident he won't ruin me...he said he's never had a case of incontinence, but he has had people who've had to come back twice...so I guess that tells you his cuts are conservative.
Now, I'm just waiting for a call from the outpatient center to schedule the surgery!!!!!

Wow! I'm glad your appointment went well and that you got a doctor who will do what you need and help you get rid of this little monster!

Yes! I'm VERY glad it's over...
I just saw your post about how your visit went...I'm so glad you just have a fissure, but a little annoyed for you that your CRS didn't want to discuss options other than the conservative ones. It makes you wonder if he does the surgery very often--maybe he's just uncomfortable with it?
Well, the main thing is that you're feeling better. I don't remember how long you've had your fissure? If it hasn't been too long, then I don't blame you for wanting to go the conservative route.
At least now we can relax!!

To tell the truth, I'm a little annoyed too. I'm not sure whether he is a CRS or a general S(urgeon). I might try to dig up some info today, and I could kick myself (gently) that I did not ask him. Some questions just come to you after the fact.
This fissure I've had for 4 months... I had one 4 years ago that healed up quickly without a problem. I'll give it a go with trying to heal it over the next 2 months. But I have a feeling that if I still have problems after that, then I am going to have to fight if I want anything else done. I know the Swedish health care system, and this is all too typical. Only those that push and push will get what they need - otherwise the doctors just shrug their shoulders and tell you to just get more exercise (without ever asking in the first place how much you do exercise). Ok, end rant! Image Image
Did you get a date yet?
Isn't it great to wake up and know "no one is going to be poking me there today!" Image

i'll have to catch up with both of your posts!
a quick congrats to alpine for getting the LIS on the table!
and Bumbutt, i am very interested in reading your post. did you get anything new as far as creams go? definitely try to see if you can get your hands on ketanserin - have a pharmacist look up sufrexal or sufrexal p and see where you can get it. for now, all i see is that it is only sold in latin countries. i think i am having positive results with it but i don't want to confirm that until about 2 weeks completion. yesterday, was a perfect day as far as my butt is concerned and if every day could be like that, then i hit the jackpot. however, i am not out of the woods yet as i know i am still healing and i am open to a setback here and there.....just as long as the trajectory keeps aiming higher and higher to my wounds to be healed.

Great News Alpine!! Do you have a date set?
I agree, you want a confident CRS!! When I hear doctors talking about all the incontinence mess, it turns me away! My CRS said the same thing about it never happening. She basically laughed when I asked if it was possible and that was good to my ears! When I asked what would be the odds of needing a second LIS. She said it happens with 10%. I didn't ask if that was with her surgery or the general population.
Bumbutt, I typed a big response to you the day of your appointment and my internet connection was lost,Lol
I was a little annoyed by your doctors response to you too. He should have gave you more options and been confident that a LIS would fix things. Your fissure is chronic and that is just non sense that he shrugged his shoulders like you just may have to live with it or something?!
I hope you are able to find a good CRS that has confidence in this surgery and his skills!

Bumbutt, I thought of about a million questions after the fact too! Like, will I have stitches? Can I soak in the bath right away, etc.? But at least I remembered to ask the important ones, like about the incontinence rates.
Do you think your fissure is the same one you had four years ago and it just reopened, or is it a new one in a different spot? Maybe our situations aren't so different! There was a time when I thought I'd totally healed my fissure, but I think once you've had one...you can easily wind up struggling with them forever.
I still don't have a date set, I'm almost wondering if they make you wait a few days and then call you with the schedule, just to see if you were really serious. Maybe the surgeon had to deal with a lot of people who impulsively agreed to the surgery while they were in his office, only to cancel later? I don't know, but if I haven't heard by Monday, I'll call them.
Dawn, you're so right! If he was hesitant at all I wouldn't trust him so much. It's still scary, but I'm trying not to dwell on that aspect. It's obvious even to me that the muscle is so ridiculously overtight!
Happyass, here's to continued healing!! :D

Alpine,
I remember them calling me to set up my surgery too. I think it was a couple of days after my appointment. I'm not sure why they do that either...
Like you it was obvious to me the muscle was too tight.
I knew I needed the surgery. There was no doubt in my mind. I couldn't even go to the bathroom. It was hard for me at the time to find other people with the same experience but have read of many others lately who have the same problem.
The LIS took care of all of that :)
I think you will be so happy you had this surgery.

Too bad you lost your reply Dawn - that happens a lot to me too, so that I try to save all my longer replies in case I lose them when posting! Otherwise Image Image
Ha, Alpine, I will have to look up the Kincaid spoof... At first I looked at the picture and thought "Oh, Alpine is trying to give us all a little serenity", and then a little later I saw the car lights! That's hysterical.
Well, next time you'll have to take Happy's thorough "20 questions to ask before your LIS" list.
For some reason, (maybe because it's late), it cracked me up thinking about a "perfect butt day"... Maybe because I know so precisely what you mean. To go to the bathroom without pain, to sit without pain, to walk without pain... a perfect day.
Ok, it is late... I had better go to bed!

Oh, you asked if I thought the fissure I had 4 years ago is the same one I have now... I don't know... but I do have a funny story about it...
When I go to the doctor, I speak Swedish (english is my native tongue), and when I saw the first GP 4 years ago, he told me I had hemorrhoids and then he told me "that I had a big split" (at least this is how it translates from Swedish, or how I translated it, not knowing that it was a specific medical term). I politely said "Mm-hmm", thinking, "yes, we all have a big split back there." Image
It wasn't until I got the fissure this time that I realized what the heck it was he was saying to me!!
All I know is that the GP from 4 years ago said it was a big fissure last time and he looked concerned, and this time they all tell me it's a small fissure, but this time it hurts so much more!!
I don't mean to hijack your thread...
Did you get your time yet?
