LIS x 2?

Postby Harper05 » 14 Apr 2017, 14:59

ok, so I got a second opinion today and this surgeon thinks the first surgeon might not have cut deep enough and that's why I still have the fissure and he thinks if I don't feel better in a week I should do another LIS on the other side.... welp.. I don't know what to do, has anyone experienced this?

I had the LIS three months ago and am still not healed, I still bleed and am in pain everyday...

This sounds like a tough decision to make. Can you ask for an evaluation for any kind of sphincter defect before they do further surgery? It doesn't seem like a good idea to cut more muscle until there's a really clear picture of what's going on in there. I have read some posts on here of people who had a second LIS because they couldn't heal, and ultimately it helped them.
8/16-12/16: Fissure due to antibiotics
5/17: Botox to sphincter, fissure healed
9/19: Trigger point injections and pudendal nerve block
11/19: Botox to pelvic floor
8/20: Botox to pelvic floor in new location.
On and off in pelvic physical therapy

What kind of sphincter defect?
He said he cut the opposite side... it just seems like a hard decision to make and I want to know what my first surgeon did..
I don't know who to trust here - or what to do.
But I'm in pain and I shouldn't have to live like this anymore. I got the surgery to help not to make it worse

A sphincter defect would be present if the surgery caused an injury to it. It's possible that the first surgeon made a conservative cut that wasn't enough to sufficiently relax the muscle. Can you get the surgery notes from the first doctor? That way your next doctor has a clear picture of what to do next.

Yes that's my plan. I'm worried though if I get it cut on the other side, will it cause incognice?
I also feel like I'm going behind my first surgeons back, he's been my surgeon the last 3 years...
but something's gotta give....
I wonder if I don't do the surgery, if I'll just end up healing?
I have 2 small kids and doing surgery is just difficult!
