It DOES supply you with Magnesium, but as Gareth pointed out wisely, it is not intended as a supplement. But if you already take mag sups, I would drop them until you stopped the MOM.

I think mag supplements are the same as MOM, just a lesser dose. For instance, a dose of MOM may have 1200 mg of mag, where as a mag supplemental pill may have only 100 mg. Kim is right though, if you take them, you need to up all your electrolytes so you don't get an imbalance. I think I may try a small doseage of mag like 100-200 mg, just to see how it helps.

Juney and others -
Did you try the mag oxide? how did it work?
I have been having really bulky BM's since my LIS and I think it is delaying my healing. I have been taking MOM at night, but I thought I would switch to mag today.
I took 500 mg this am and I am regretting it now. It has given me explosive diarrhea! I have had like 6 BM's this afternoon. I think 250 mg should do the trick! Holy cow!!!! Ouch!

Jen baby - I would take loose stools any day over big one : ((. Yes they sting - but damage is so much smaller ! except if they are "explosive" like during food poisoning or virus infection ...

Kim -
What kind of mag pills do you take? I can tolerate the MOM, but these mag pills are making me sore from all the BM's. Image
I have mixed feelings on stool softeners. They sometimes work with me and other times they don't

I seem to have the same effect with either. diff types of mag have diff effects, and the ones with calcium don't have any effect b/c calcium does the opposite of mag. I find Im best with a combo mag 500-750mg/day.

I missed this thread somehow..thanks BG...
Jen, I just take OTC 400 mg w/ 15MG zinc tablets...
I think you may be right abou the stool softeners. I got the feeling I was taking them for nothing a lot of the time while I had my fissure.
