Yeah, don't we all wish we had known what to do! Glad to hear things are less painful. I know that is a relief to you. Just keep up doing what you are doing so you give your body the right conditions to heal!

I'll second that, Lecia! I wish I had done LOTS of things differently in the past, but I guess we all did the best we could at the time. Image
We have to be our own best friends!!

Dont wait too long

Postby bherna1 » 13 Jul 2008, 23:25

My advise to you is not wait too long. Find a specialist that you can go to and find the root of the cause. I waited about one year to do something. By then more surgery and harm that could have been avoided. Let alone the pain and inconvience to your kids and sigificate other. Thats how bad mine got. Went from nothing to something in about a year tiime.
Good luck

hoosierfishing wrote:Hello everyone! Just registered, and I must say, I am very glad I have found this msg board. My battle with AF started about 4 or 5 months ago. During a episode of diarehha, my stool became a painful, bloody mess. At first I assumed it was a hemmroid. I had a doctor appointment a month later for blood pressure, so I waited it out. I went to the doctor, and told him about my problem. He said to watch it and see if it gets better on his own. By the time my second doctor visit came around, it didnt get any better. He took a look, but didn't find a hemmroid. I was worried to say the least. I kept thinking to myself "all this blood and pain, and yet I dont have a hemmroid"? I was scared. I went back the third time for my last blood pressure check and told him I was still having problems. He took another look with a rubber glove, and sure enough, he said I had a anal fissure.
The doctor gave me some suppositories, and sent me on my way. At first, the medication worked great. However, one night it flarred up real bad and its been pretty bad ever since. Blood in stool and on toilet paper, painful bowel movements, occasional chaffing. The last couple weeks my anal area seems reallly tight. My stools aren't coming out smoothly. Still some bright red blood, and occasional itching. Here is what I have been doing.
Preparation H Suppositories
Hot tub or bath
I'm upping my fiber intake
Drinking more water
Any other advice or personal success stories. My pain is not crippling when I'm not having a bowel movement, thank god.
Thanks and look forward to learing from you all.

I love the sisterhood of mermaids icon!! Being an only child (but not spoiled of course), I never had any sisters (or other sibs) until now! Plus my husband and I only have each other to communicate with now except our golfing friends and other friends that we only talk with occasionally versus when I worked and had my many working friends. But my working friends and I are finding the link that held us together through work continues to weaken as we don't have work-related issues to discuss (complain about) any longer. Image
So, I guess I should hope that my fissure doesn't heal completely, and I could therefore remain in the mermaid sisterhood??? Image
I like the new board with the mermaids!!! Kim's purpose in life is to be the master of this board. I think he was put on earth to showcase his computer abilities here (and make us happy in the process).
Great, they're here in spite of me not practicing last night!!! Image I think this one has the golfer missing the ball which I did last year while on the tee!! Has not yet happened this year except with my son. :golfclub:
If anyone wants to send me good golfing wishes, I'll be playing in a shotgun start tomorrow (Tuesday) @ 7:15. I am trying to look at my fellow golfers as comrades, instead of competitors that I have to best, and my new attitude seems to be helping me.
Image I am going to use this one also as I was a cheerleader for three years. I love all of these new icons!!

Well, today I had to hold my bm alll day. Got off at 4 pm and absolutely dreaded taking a bm when I got home. Well, I gently sat on the toilet expecting the worse. There was a little burn, but my bm felt like it did prior to my anal fissure. I was so happy. Now my butt is itching like theres no tommorrow. WHen I think back to my cuts, warts, rashes etc. THey would itch when they were healing. So im hoping this itch is because my anal fissure is finally healing. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Hoosier,
ARe you trying any relaxation techniques to aid in your healing (mind/body work)? I used to break out in a cold sweat in the AM prior to using the toilet as wondered how bad "things" would be.

Yes, I itched terribly when I was healing. Too bad you had to hold your Bm for so long as that is one of the worse things you can do...

Had two bm today. Each one felt "ALMOST" like I never had a fissure. However, the bm tonight had blood, which was disapointing. Other then that, my fissure seems to be healing drastically since I upped my fiber and baths.
