The Mayo Clinic has recently developed a DNA stool test for colon cancer (not a fecal blood occult test), that tests your stool for cancer DNA. The test apparently has a success rate that is just as good as that of a colonoscopy.
Since having my fissure, I've been very scared about my upcoming colonoscopy (every five years now, but more regularly in the past because of my family history of colon cancer), because I fear a re-tear or a new fissure that might be caused by the colonoscope.
In the paper the other day, I saw an article about this new test and am providing links to the article and to the lab that performs the test. It is not cheap $650US, and only available in the US and Australia at present, but it gives me hope that I may not have to have my next colonoscopy after all in 2017. The price could come down by then, and may also be available to me in Canada.
