Hey all. I've been using Nifedipine for 8 weeks now. The pain is more manageable now than at the beginning although it can still smart. I get frequent bleeding still too. The specialist has said that the fissure is healing and I can cut out the Nifedipine over the next month or so.
I read a study that said 87% of participants were pain-free in 3 weeks and 95% healed in 6 weeks. Has anyone here healed that quickly with Nifedipine or any other CCB?
Also, does the internal sphincter relax once the fissure is healed? I tried having a BM today and it wouldn't go; I drank some water and applied Nif. cream and 20 minutes later the BM passed no problem. I had some tightness/cramping (?) discomfort afterward.
I suppose I shouldn't complain, it sounds like there are lots of people worse off than me on this forum. I just get so discouraged and frustrated with this stupid fissure. I am also very concerned that having a BM will be difficult even after healing because everything is so tight down there.
Will try the flax oil supplement to see if it lets things slide easier.
Thanks for letting me vent. I wish everyone here a complete and speedy recovery. Those people who have never had one of these have no idea what we go through (eg my roommates)

That is a good question about the sphincter. I assume it must relax or the spasms would be continuing. In fact, the nefedipine should cause it to relax and allow the healing to begin.
Yes, a fissure will drive you mad if you let it. If it were me, I would not DC the cream anytime soon, as it is the one thing keeping you from being so tight.

Yeah, I agree with Kim. I don't think you want to rush to get off the cream. It sounds like you are very tight regardless and my CRS said that some people stay on it for a long time to help with cramps and spasms.
Do you take baths? Do you have a detachable shower head you can use to aim water at the area? That is my next project-to install one of those.
Hang in there. I know the cream really helped me but it took 4 months. I always seems to be an outlier with everything though!

I took 7 mos to heal. I have a scar from the whole ordeal that is causing my pain and thus spasming now.

According to my CRS the actual percentages are lower than the studies tend to say. I've been on it for 9 weeks now. My fissure is healing very very slowly. I'm not in agonizing pain anymore which is good but I still feel the fissure and a dull pain (more of a discomfort than pain.) However I am getting really tired of the this. Its taken over my life and is giving me serious amount of anxiety. Seriously thinking about doing the botox. See if that can give me an edge on healing this thing.

one thing to take note about the studies is to see if the patients had chronic fissure or not. it is much harder to fix the chronic ones and those are the ones that sometime need surgery.

i noticed while i was on the nitrocream that the longer i used the cream, the easier it was to apply "up there" and the spasms were less and less,i havent had spasms since early july, but i still apply the cream once a day instead of like 4 times,i have gone weeks without it though
