how are you doing with it? Wishing you the best I go back to the Dr. on the 18th so he can look at it the fistula itself feels so much better the seton gets aggravating once in a while, but I can deal with it.

It gets better, I've had it in a look more than a month now. Every so often I have the ends poking me and gets uncomfortable. A quick run to the RR to adjust it and it's all good. Still have some leakage. I can't believe I have been wearing gauze for more than a freaking year!

Carmona the setons can work wonders so hopefully it'll all be over soon - imagine 4 years with gauze :) I'm really not sure how I did it!

No - I had a seton in for about 10 months total (3 surgeries).
But I have been dealing with this issue for a total of 4 years now - my thread with my story is buried somewhere in here if you want to dig it up. I would say that the first 2 years were wasted due to a lot of wrong diagnoses and wait times to see the right specialist. I had my first surgery in October 2012 and since the "issue" was pretty bad by then, I had to take it in stages and had 3 surgeries. There was a chance I would need a fourth but it looks like that won't be the case.. fingers crossed.. I should know in a couple of weeks!

By the way, just in case you're wondering - some people who have other underlying causes opt to have the setons in for life. It really depends on your specific issue and situation! In my case it was just a matter of a simple abscess turning into a fistula and being left untreated and then turning into a high fistula with 2 tracts.
