Alyssa, have they examined you under anesthesia? They might find something then? Also, my fissure didn't bleed for almost six weeks before I had LIS and my doc never saw it during a normal exam. I had a few stints of no pain for a week or two as well. Once I was under, she said she found the fissure and it was really deep, down to the muscle. I was surprised the fissure was still that bad given my symptoms. I had spasms though, which was a burning feeling for hours after a Bm, so I guess I knew my fissure was still active.

Hi Alyssa,
Just my 2 cents worth - I had a colonoscopy when my fissure was new and fresh and agonizing. The prep wasn't painful at all. The BMs were liquid and didn't hurt in the least.
The colonoscopy itself was also fine. I was sedated and out of it for the whole thing. The doc knew I had a fissure, so perhaps was extra careful. Anyway, nothing bad happened.

The only bad thing was that I wasn't supposed to have ibuprofen for 3 days prior to the colonoscopy, and that seemed unthinkable! I asked my GP, and she said I could have some ibuprofen, less than I'd normally take, and to stop it just the day before.

Good luck with yours. It really isn't as scary and awful as it might seem.
Nifedipine/lidocaine, no help
Diltiazem, effective, but caused major rash
Nitroglycerine, effective.
Topical estrogen for final healing.
Gentle heat to bottom - pain relief, muscle relaxant
Kondremul mineral oil
Time - lots of time.
Status - Healed!

Unfortunately, I have no other option because we need to rule out anything else that can be causing any anal pain so the doctors can proceed with any treatment plan. I'm definitely not looking forward to it.

Scientist,

Thank you for your response, I'm happy to hear that the prep was not that bad for you; it is given me reassurance to go through with it. I've canceled my appointment two times before. Do you know if small fissures can be seen in this exam?

/Jbl22424,

I've seen 4 doctors (2 general/ 2 CRS) and none have seen any more fissures since mine was healed; they didn't offer sedating me to check further. They've all suggested a colonoscopy and to see a pelvic floor physical therapist. It's exhausting trying to find answers, my last doctor said "you've only been in pain for 3 months"...

"Only 3 months!" Make a wax model of the doctor and stick a pin into it. I won't say where to stick the pin.

I asked the CRS to look for the fissure, and he said he would, but afterwards he said he hadn't seen it, and didn't really expect to with that procedure. They were looking higher up, and looking for polyps.

I posted in the General Fissure section that Ventolin inhaler (albuterol) might be helpful for chronic post-fissure pain. Since it's commonly prescribed for opening the bronchial tubes, it's rather benign, and surely it can't hurt just to try it.
Check out my post: levator-ani-syndrome-t8376.html

Even if your pain isn't levator ani syndrome as such, a general relaxant seems like an excellent idea.

i got acupuncture very close to my rectum in two places. i think it helped with some spasms and the all-day stick in the butt pain - easier to walk the next day.
