After surgery, I used a peri-bottle to spray water and then just dabbed dry instead of wiping. Then a sitz bath. Interestingly, the nurses at the hospital told me infection wasn't very likely because the area isn't sterile - lots of beneficial bacteria in that general region I guess that prevent infection. Sounds like you are doing great!

Can't believe I wasn't dabbing but wiping Jbl, have I learnt nothing? lol

It is AMAZING how good I feel 10 days on from the surgery, I have had next to know fissure pain and the soreness of the wound has pretty much gone, the bleeding from the surgery has stopped also. I simply can't believe it! I am taking nothing for granted though, I still have about 3 sitz baths after a BM, still on 3 laxido sachets a day and I still have a diet high in soluble fibre. Funny enough I was given strong pain relief for after the LIS, but NOTHING compared to the pain of a fissure and I never needed to take it. I have had no incontinence (I did with the botox initially) but wind does come out whenever it feels like it, which can be quite embarrassing lol.

If you are considering LIS, find a REALLY good and reputable surgeon and go for it :-)

Wow, SS I am so happy for you!!! I feel giddy when I hear about others who healed up from LIS. It is such a miracle cure after going through what we have all been through. My recovery sounds very similar to yours, I haven't felt fissure pain since a week post-op. I'm going on 5 weeks now and doing great. I eased back into my pre-fissure diet and am now eating completely normally (ice cream, pasta, cheese, pizza and loads of popcorn). Still taking the miralax... going to wean off of that in a few weeks. You're going to be all healed up and back to normal in no time. Congrats.

Wow JBL, that's amazing! I'm still so scared to eat stuff lol and I freak if I forget my laxido (movicol/miralax) LOL. I am so happy for you, it's been so rubbish hasn't it! It will be a year at the end of next month for me that i've been suffering.

Thank you Alyssa, that's lovely of you. How are you getting on?

Sugarspice,

I am having an okay week, I saw another CRS yesterday and I explained to him my symptoms and the fact that doctors have not been able to detect a fissure since the first exam (when I was told I had a fissure). He stated that it does not mean there isn't a small one that can not be detected and he suggested that I try Botox but I am scared to go ahead and try it. I have been to multiple doctors and have received different diagnoses and advice and it has left me confused.

I had a fissure then it healed but still had dull achy pain afterwards; doctor referred me to PT and I have been told that I have a pelvic floor dysfunction; I also have some bleeding when I wipe so people suggested that I could be allergic to something that I put on my bum (this week I decided to not put nothing there to test out how I do). I am left with a lot of what if's...

According to doctors I have a normal sphincter (have not had any tests done other than their opinion), so if it is a small fissure why is it not healing on its own? Botox and LIS are used to relax the sphincter when it is tight, right?... but mine is normal...has anyone had a normal sphincter but still had fissure like pain or a fissure?

Is the pain you are having the same as when you had the fissure? If it is you may want to consider Botox, as you are probably a good candidate. It may be just what you need to finish healing. I had Botox and it's going very well. Good luck whatever you decide, I hope you heal soon.

Alyssa, you should go see my doctor! I think the visit is only $100 since she isn't kaiser.
