Hello from Houston

Postby Paul Caruso » 19 Jul 2014, 12:16

Hi,
It's good to know I'm not alone with this.
I've just been diagnosed this last week. I'm 49 and have had these pains down there since I was 12 or so. I thought it was a prostate problem and have been to so many doctors for prostate checks and never could find anything. My excruciating pains have always occurred when clinching up down there. I always thought it was from clinching my prostate. Last Saturday I was going bm and rip! Excruciating pain! Went to my gp and he examined and said I have 3 fissures. He gave me a cream called proctosol. Don't know if it helps or not. I'm petrified to go to the bathroom. I have an appointment with a colon and rectal surgeon this coming Friday. I just want to make it to then. One moment at a time. How do I relax knowing that the next bm may hurt so much? Anyway, I'm uncomfortable, sad, worried and scared. I know y'all won't consider this whining because you have felt what I'm feeling.
Peace
Paul

Hi Paul,
Welcome to the forum, we all know how you are feeling, I'm sorry you are in so much pain. Is the cream proctosedyl? It can heal Fissures... But what you need is to help the blood flow, so Rectogesic or Diltiazem are both used for healing fissures. Whilst you are in the early stages you have more chance of healing. Taking stool softeners also helps and adjusting your diet. I know the fear all too well of having the next BM, but don't avoid it, things will only be harder to pass, which will cause more pain.... Also lubricating with Vaseline prior to BM also helps. Maybe go back to the GP and see if you can get one of the Fissure creams ASAP. Good luck. Xx

Paul,

Do you have any updates on how your doctor visit went? Hope that you are feeling somewhat better...
P.S. I don't think we can relax when there is pain when we have a BM...

Hi, thank you for asking Alyssa. The doctor said I don't have fissures. Spent Sunday morning in the ER he gave me muscle relaxers and they are helping a lot. I see a urologist tomorrow. I think I have a muscle problem down there.
God bless, and I hope you are feeling well :)

By the way... Some fissures are hard to find.. My doctor told me that my muscles are so tight that it causes me little tears which have not been visible to 5 doctors.

Just Tylenol or ibuprofen... I've asked about pain meds and they just want me to take those.
