it was a fistula

Postby jlm1 » 09 Oct 2014, 10:20

Hi all,

Turned out that I did have a fistula but the crs said the surgery was simple, just a few stitches. I had it done yesterday. Last night was terrible pain wise but I am comfortable now. Taking oxyctoton and ibuprofen. I am a little worried about constipation. I had a bm yesterday a few hours after surgery. I was terrified but it really wasn't bad. It was very weird to poop out gauze though!Of course the whole area is swollen and my hemmie and skin tags are not happy. I know this will go down in time.
I'm drinking lots of water and hoping my body does what it needs to. I see the doctor next Friday. She said I should be ok in a week or 2. It's hard for my to gage right now how long I should take off of work. I don't want to rush......but I also hate laying around. What do you guys thing? I figured I would take off the rest of this week and next week and then go back the following Monday?
One thing that I was very disappointed to hear was that the fissure is still there. It's much better (doctor said 10 times better) but still there. I thought it was completely healed. That is what she said a few weeks ago. I guess the exam in the office wasn't as accurate as the one when I was under.
Thanks for reading! I hope this is the end of this now!

Hi Jim ... Glad to hear all went well and thAt they were able to do something for the fisutla .... I think u should take the time off it will do body well to rest up and if any constipation insures arise u will be at home to handle them .... Lots of water helps but I also added probiotics to my daily routine and it helps keep me regular and soft stools ... They say that soft stool is the key to easier bowel movements with having fissures ... Helps them heal too ... Hope things stay well for u ... This is a great place for support :)

I agree -- Definitely get rest in. I didn't, I rushed back into clinical rotations (it was that or miss graduating). It wasn't the best choice. Lots of water, diligent with fiber in diet (fruit, supplements), and BATHS. The baths were KEY for me. Also, with the BM and then the bath, wanting to feel clean down there. I bought in the baby section, organic wipes and tossed them in the tub. They are very gentle to help dab that area. My doctor advised not to use regular toilet wipes, though one would think it was a great idea (I did), but many of those wipes have alcohol and other additives in them. Hang in there. Stay healthy and REST! You are on the right road!
