Burning pain

Postby Dan » 27 Jan 2015, 09:14

Hi all,

I've had a fissure since just before Christmas, and have tried rectogesic, but had to stop using due to crushing headaches. I'm now on diltiazem cream, for about 2 weeks.

My BM's are ok now, and I jump in the bath right after, but approximately 1-2 hours later I get a really intense burning pain which lasts for hours.

Does anyone know why this is?

Thanks in advance

Dan

Hi there,
I also have burning pain which I have been told is nerve pain. My fissure is healed. (that's what I am told) I had botox in July. I don't know if this is what is causing your burning.
fissure May 2014
nitro, diltiazem
botox July
fistula surgery, piece of skin tag removed Oct
fissure declared healed Dec
currently have burning/pain-told it is nerve pain

Hi jlm ,

Thanks for that.

I'm fairly sure my fissure isn't healed yet, but have you been told if the nerve pain will ease in time?

It's somewhat maddening I have found. My doctor has said that the fissure is healed and suggested that the pain is nerve pain, which she said will get better with time. How much time is another question. I have found that most doctors really don't know as everyone heals differently. I find it very frustrating because it's an area that you can't see for yourself to monitor progress. I've been going to physical therapy and the therapists have been a source of info and relief. There is just so much about nerves and muscles that most CRS's don't know about. I was told that burning could be nerves re awakening. And that area is all muscle and nerves so it makes sense that trauma to the area would take time to heal.
I do hope the diltiazem heals your fissure. Keep your stools soft, take softeners, eat well, exercise to get blood flowing to the area and hang in there!

Thanks jlm,

This is the most frustrating condition all round! I've never had a problem with constipation or hard stools, so I'm at a bit of a loss as to why it happened, but there we go.

So far I seem to be able to keep a soft stool with plenty of fruit and vegetables, fybogel and water, which combined with controlled breathing, makes BM's not too bad currently. My main problem is this burning pain after, which can last all day!

Anyhow, thanks for the reply and support. It's really very debilitating, so any support is great!

I know! Whoever thought that a cut in the a## would be so damn debilitating! But it certainly is. Everyone on this site gets it and understands so keep on sharing. It has helped me to read other posts and get suggestions/information that way. And not that I want anyone else to be in pain but it's comforting to not be alone. It will slowly get better.

Yes. Its spasms, and those are one of the reason its so difficult yo heal a fissure, since its cutting the bloodsupply.

Keep the stools soft to avoid retears, and give diltiazem a little more time to work, and if you are still in a bad place after 2-3 months, you might want to look into botox.

Good luck!

make sure you are doing sitz baths 2 to 3 times daily, helps with the evil burning. I have started using baking soda and epsom salt in the sitz bath.

I've been off work since Christmas, so have been having 3-4 baths a day.

But now I seem to have moved on a bit. At the weekend I caught a sickness bug off my little boy, which has left me constipated, so got a a prescription today for some laxido, and an appointment with a crs next Tuesday.

The pain seems to have changed also, from the intense burning to a persistent ache, like a bruised feeling.

Hi Dan,
The delayed burning pain is classic fissure muscle spasms. Unfortunately it takes a very long time to heal.
Developed fissure from constipation due to breastfeeding 7 weeks after delivery (Jan 2014)
Nifedepine
Colace
Magnesium
Miralax - godsend
Nitro - some improvement
LIS (May 2014) - cured for 3 months then setback
Diltiazem
Feeling better for now
