How much fiber??

Postby Mae » 16 Mar 2015, 19:51

I've seen some people on here warn about the dangers of bulking up stool too much with high fiber diets. I was wondering how much fiber is too much? To heal a fissure. Cuz most sites say the average person should have about 25g per day but is that too high for fissure healing? My usual diet is very low in fiber so I have been trying to add more and right now it's at about 10-12g per day. From oatmeal and Metamucil health bars (with psyllium). That combined with miralax and water has given me large (but soft) stool. Wider in diameter than my hard constipated stool but at least it's softer right? I'm having less pain but still the same amount of bleeding (it's been 5 days now). Am I doing the right thing?

For me it's all about the ease of evacuation, no pushing it should just fall out and you are done in seconds. I am having good success with morning smoothie and flax seed

1 Apple
1 very ripe pear
Some water
1 tbsp flax seed
Blend until smooth and drink

Doing this daily ensures an early morning easy poop

Thanks. Does flax seed make people gassy? Just wondering cuz I just wasted a bunch of money on a diet bar with chicory root extract. Never again xP

Flax makes me gassy. Other people don't seem to suffer from that.
If your stools are bulky, I'd reduce the fibre, at least for now.
Nifedipine/lidocaine, no help
Diltiazem, effective, but caused major rash
Nitroglycerine, effective.
Topical estrogen for final healing.
Gentle heat to bottom - pain relief, muscle relaxant
Kondremul mineral oil
Time - lots of time.
Status - Healed!

If you eat fruit, vegetables (raw or lightly steamed), and high quality grains you should be good. Drinking lots of water is very very important. Lots of fibre and not enough hydration will cause the pipes to back up

Lately I drink 32 ounces of warm lemon water first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, that works wonders for a good poop, well for me it does. Google it.

15g seems to be sufficient for me.

Psyllium husk is a miracle!

Chicory root extract makes me SUPER bloated.

Oatmeal has helped me in the past with soft stools. I ate some this morning but won't expect to pass it out of me until tomorrow. Hopefully it will be soft and easy to pass because I had a fissurectomy the day before yesterday.
