Had Botox injection for first time a few months ago. Didn't seem to do much other than cause me to toot some tunes in uncontrolled fashion before others. Rather embarrasing I might add. What's more embarrassing is bringing one's donut to the restaurant for breakfast.
It's been three months since the injections ( which cost $6000 total )
No difference in fissure discomfort - not healed .
Have literally worn out my plastic Sitz Bath , and considering designing a custom one with reading lamps and Walkman tunes .................
Kinda tough on making good first impression on new dates when shifting from side to side with expressions of pain at the dinner table.........
I could go on - but sure you all can relate - it's a real pisser .
I guess my question is - does one do a few more Botox runs before doing the surgery ?

sorry you're suffering.
I got the LIS and it was a miracle cure for me- BUT you have to find a competent surgeon who knows what they're doing. Others on the board have had success with botox, so its really a personal choice, but at least once the surgery is over(if done correctly) its immediate relief and gets better very quickly.

Thanks Val, Yea, reading about the surgery on line is scary - some reports say that 10 -20% suffer incontenance from it .
That really doesn't apeal to me unless I am in so much pain I'de rather die. I am not there yet - just frustrated that for the first time in my life I have something that just won't heal. I don't understand why it won't heal........

I don't know- my life was so disrupted with fissure pain, actually I would be able to do everything with incontinence - so many people live with that anyway, and with fissure pain my whole day was planed about and around the TOILET - What is worse - ha ha, for me the fissure was . I would rather wear diaper and run around and have life than suffer every day - but , that is me !
The last drop that helped me decide was when my CRS told me that I can get incontinent ANYWAY since long standing fissure can form so much scar tissue that it can cause leaks - I had no doubts in my mind what I want to do !!!
Try all other options, of course, but if it does not heal, I think you should conceder LIS. Chronic Fissures can cause abscesses and fistulas too , which surgery is also very complicated and can have lasting effects if not done properly or if the case is very complicated.

i think the incontinence issue is totally overrated. I have had 2 LIS surgeries and i can't stress enough that I have no incontinence issues. If you already have something compromising your butt functions (ie old age, multiple childbirths, etc) then you might need to worry, but for everyone else it's pretty much a nonissue. If this is the only reason you're delaying having surgery, please reconsider. It didn't work for me, but for so many people LIS has given them their lives back.

Yeah, I would have done it in a heartbeat. I am thinking about botox myself since I can't have surgery (but I have nerve damage from childbirth that causes pain and dysfunction) but if the botox doesn't work after a few more attempts it might be a good way to go.

I have been in such pain before that I have asked two doctors about doing a colostomy. I would rather have to go in a bag than have to be in pain for the rest of my life. But I have been dealing with rectal pain for 5 years so you can see I am not in my normal mind anymore!

It is so not fair !!!!! BUT - I know that this time around your body will slowly and surely heal and all of this horrendous pain will be part of a distant past !!!

I had Botox 2x. I am completely pain free. I was suppose to have a third shot 2/27/08, but I cancelled it. You should think about another shot or consider LIS just make sure your CRS has experience with it. Keep your chin up I know it is hard beleive me. I have had this AF since May 07.

burnbutgrl, thanks for the uplifting encouragement - at this point I will give this a little longer with the Nitro cream .
Yea, maybe another try with the Botox is down the road for me.
Or, maybe I'll try putting the rest of the Nitroglycerine tube in there and lighting it !! ( JK)

Hey Sore,
I never used Nitro cream I used Nefedipine cream and it worked for me with no side affects. Yah consider a second shot of Botox, but the consensus on this forum seems to be LIS. Just look at your options and see what will work for you. I hope you feel better and have some pain free days. I know what is like. Keep your chin up!
