Hi All...I have.been dealing with a fissure since October 2014 - about 15 months.

I was told it was healed...by a surgeon...hmmm.

Anyways...I have started to experience blood with my stool again. No pain (yet) this time just mild discomfort when going.

What would you do - I already do all the stuff to help with blood flow and good eating. Question I ask myself...should I go down a surgical route. Any thought or ideas welcome.

Finally (after 7 years) doing surgery was the most life-altering thing that I have ever done. I went from hell to heaven in a matter of weeks, and am so glad that I had the courage to go through with LIS a year ago this month.

In your case however, I would not even think about going under the knife if you are not in pain and only experiencing mild discomfort during the movement itself.

If your pain returns however, you may then want to consider a surgical option.

I get blood too, on occasion, CB. I haven't had surgery. Things aren't perfect, just bearable in comparision to a few years back. No spasms, just irritation.

Just wanted to let y'all know (in case someone is reading for their own sake/learning) that I saw my GP today and told him about my setback yesterday...I also told him that December was magical for me....hardly ever thought about my butt for a full month!

He asked what might be different (I take metamucil 3x/day and a small dose of restoralax 2x a day) -- I told him i was slowly weaning off the restoralax...to which he said -- WHY? I told him it was my impression it was better to try and live without it than continue -- to which he said....I should continue taking it for the rest of my life if that is what helps me. Wow...never heard that before.

The way he put it is that similar to someone who gets a cracked lip each winter or chapped hands...my butt is prone to cracking at a certain spot. So he suggests I simply manage it and take care of it by using the cocktail that works for me.

Hang in there. I too don't understand the mystery of these bum issues. I'm in the same boat.
What a glorious month December was! That is amazing and how it should be. :)
