Hi all

Updating since this has become a bit of a therapeutic journal for me.

The strange stomach pain has stopped, thank goodness. It seems that it was from the morphine.

BUT my fissure pain is as bad as ever, nearing that of 4-5 months ago when it was at it's worst. Today was particularly bad - not sure what's up with my system but I've had major diarrhea today - I though the amitryptiline was supposed to be constipating! I've had probably 8-10 bowel movements and needless to say I'm not happy at all...and the stomach continues to rumble. Normally even if I have D it is only in the am, but this has been all day.

I'm assuming this is morphine withdrawal fully hitting - I think it took a long time to get right out of my system and that's why things were so up and down. No miralax tonight, and I may take the full dose of amitryptiline prescribed (I have been doing half). If need be, it will be back to Imodium tomorrow!

I'm exhausted but worried I won't be able to sleep because of the pain. Taking a lorazepam as we speak and hopping in the bath to read Harry Potter, hopefully will be able to calm down.

Also, lots of blisters on the butt cheeks - ouch. My doctor says there is nothing sinister about them, just from softening the skin so much from baths, lying down so much and heating pad. Bad combo I guess if you have sensitive skin.

Anyways, not a good day, maybe tomorrow will be better

Literally feeling like I'm in hell right now - had about 8 bowel movements this morning. Still feeling the urge, but my sphincter has completely shut out of pain and the burning is horrible. They are never ending narrow sticky bms that leave lots of residue and pain.

I've just taken a small dose of Imodium and I'm hoping it won't cause me the stomach pain morphine did...I'm getting really scared that I'm going to open up another fissure if this doesn't stop soon. I'm just so scared that this D won't stop and I can't take anything besides Tylenol for pain!

It's Saturday here so I will have to wait two days before calling my surgeons office - maybe she can give me some advice.

I don't understand how I can have this large a volume of bowel movements when I eat maybe 900 calories worth of food - most of it liquid - each day.

Oh The Pain!------sounds like it! especially since the surgeon couldnt find anything else except these hemmroids which probably thrombosed from the botox shots which explains the intense pain the first 72 hours..

from LA Colon Rectal Specialists....
However, when hemorrhoids become inflamed or enlarge, especially when they prolapse, they cause the levator muscles to pull even stronger, thus moving or wiggling the coccyx (tailbone) more than is normal. Bones are endowed with pain nerve fibers. These fibers cause us to feel pain when they are stretched. Hence, tailbone pain with hemorrhoids. The muscles pull on the tailbone. Anxiety or stress can cause the same problem because stress can cause spasm of susceptible muscles. The pain may be acute and all of a sudden. Or it may be chronic and long lasting. Oftentimes, acute pain may wake us at night. The chronic pain may follow us throughout the day. Either way, pain is pain, and can be a major distraction. The good news is that this tailbone pain is not related to cancer or any other life threatening problems. Thrombosed can take 3 to 6 full months to heal.

more info.. Our bodies need inflammation to properly heal. And new cells to regenerate, we want quick fixes , but with this area the body needs rest and time....

Piles are no exception to the rule.

All that heat, swelling and tenderness is partly nature’s way of telling you to leave the area alone for a bit so it can get on with getting better.

The problem is that it doesn’t quite work for piles:

You can’t really leave your anus alone, you regularly need to use it for defecation.
And if you do manage to stop going to the loo, you’ll just end up constipated, which is an important cause of piles, so you’ll probably just make things worse!
The damage in piles is caused by the veins in the rectum getting stretched out of shape from within by having too much blood in them over long periods of time, blood that is forced in when you strain at stool, for example, or blood pushed there from somewhere else in the case of pregnancy or portal hypertension. Fissures, etc..

Once that damage is done, the body can repair it but it takes a long time, several months at best, because the veins can’t shut down to let the repair process work.

Like a busy rail terminal, if you completely close it down to fix it, you almost cause more problems than you fix!

It’s not an option for blood supply, you cant shut it down without killing tissue and cells etc. Time Time and more Time... Patience...

so after reading this I am pretty sure this is whats up... seems as though the treatment for fissure is opposite what is needed to treat int. thrombosed hems. one needs more blood flow the other needs less. Thats why the warm tub helps fssure but hurts the veins... what a catch 22... Well now if the hems heal it should be good.... spasms are less, and less...whew!!

Summary

Here’s the painful truth. If you want to totally get rid of your piles, for good, there is no quick or easy answer.

Surgery is only really an option for chronic piles that do not respond to other treatments, or piles that have become an acute health problem through prolapse or infarct (blood clot – thrombosed piles).

It takes your body a matter of months to heal the damage, and it may not be able to do that at all unless you alter your lifestyle.

Even if you do everything right, and even with the aid of the many treatments to alleviate pain, you are looking at 6 months or so before they are gone.

That’s quite a serious undertaking, and requires a lot of strength of mind and stubborn willpower.

However, all treatments, even the long haul of dietary change and exercise, should start working quickly, even within hours, to relieve the symptoms of piles.

Dietary changes take longer, perhaps two weeks, and it’s well worth following the advice you can find elsewhere on this website to do whatever you can to relieve yourself of the symptoms in the short term.

But curing piles takes time.
