Just keep it that way a bit more time. Skin has to become elastic again and that takes time.
Yes, I had LIS surgery done, but doc was not making incision site next to fissure. Instead of that he was working in fissure itself. He explained me it was best method. He was a best surgeon in Croatia. I really feel his death as my persone loss.

That's interesting, I don;t know anything about how LIS is done, just what is done (i.e. muscle cut). I have heard people get their chronic fissures cauterized, and for a while I considered asking the CRS about this, but mine healed within 3 weeks. Sorry you lost your doctor too. It will be difficult to find another if he was the best, although now you are healing so hopefully will not need to see any more surgeons.

Yeah tissue takes a long time to repair. I used to get canker sores inside my mouth and sometimes those would take 2 weeks to resolve and they were tiny. I am seeing my naturopath again on Wed. to discuss this latest fissure recurrence after I had been doing so well for over 3 months. Now that I know what the issue really is (my tight, yet still normal inner sphincter muscle), I'm not really sure what she will recommend, probably some things to strengthen the tissues.

Now back to my almost daily diet and BM report --

Fissure is definitely healed. Yesterday, possibly from the caffeinated chai tea I had, I had 2 BMs yesterday morning, one at around 7:30 and the next at 9:30. This has actually happened to me pre-fissure and usually coffee/caffeine is involved. The first one was nice and smooth, the 2nd a little looser. Then nothing the rest of day. I ate the final serving of my cauliflower and kale with toast for breakfast, then took dog out for an hour and a half walk and also managed to eat a donut, which was delicious! Came home hungry and ate a veggie burger with guacamole, and was STILL hungry, so made a blueberry/strawberry smoothie with soy milk and chia. Then I was too full, went to do some work and ended up eating a 2nd donut with green tea. Not super healthy but what can I say, I rarely eat donuts so this was my sugar fix of day. For dinner all I had was apple sauce since I wasnt hungry.

At around 9:30pm I realized I hadnt pooped since noon -- noon is usually my cut off -- if I dont go after noon I always consider using a suppository. I have gotten by without doing that, but the retear last weekend really made using one this time a must. Barely anything came out, so it probably wasnt necessary, but I could tell I was completely healed because the glycerin didnt irritate or burn or sting at all. This am by 8 I had the most perfect BM in recent memory. LOL. I cant believe I am writing this. I am adopting a "squatting position" without a squatty potty, and I think that helped. I am going to buy a squatty potty for home. I have been avoiding ggetting one because I pretty much always have a BM at work (well 5/7 days) and so it seemed silly to buy one for just the weekends. However I tend to get my tears on weekends so maybe this will help!

There are severa methods for LIS surgery. Sfincter is cut and also can be fissure with tissue. It depends on surgeon choice.
My greatest problem is that with huge pain long spasms came... My BMs were so pain full, like I was giving a birth. Last BM, the day I had surgery, was almost impossible. It couldn't come out even though it was not hard atool but my bum was so in spasm that I needed 20 minutes to take it out. Maybe a worst day in my life

Yikes FromCroatia! That sounds excruciating just reading it, I cant imagine what it is like to experience it. I really admire you for going thru all this.

I was waiting to read about the LIS when it was an option -- I didnt want the details to scare me ahead of time and cause more stress than a fissure is worth! It's a good thing because I learned I cant have one, and now that I know I am pretty much always going to have to manage, I have accepted things and sort of see it now as a daily health issue, like taking vitamins and baths. I actually miss my sitz now, as I would meditate during that time. Since I'm healed they arent necessary but maybe I will do them anyway!

----BM report----
Came home from work today feeling that I had to go, but nothing would go. Took dog out for her afternoojn adventure, then felt, yep, I need to go -- stopped at a macdonalds -- then couldnt go. Hm. I had gone just 10 hours earlier so this wasnt constipation but I was getting annoyed. I came home and used a glycerin suppository and was having a BM in minutes. It was definitely more sluggish and firm and larger than usual and I was a little afraid I would retear, but didnt. I think my semi squatty position as well as all the glycerin helped. However it scared me so instead of 700mg I took 800mg tonight. It's crazy how just 100mg of a pill can really make a difference.

Also, I would not be surprised if this sluggish BM had something to do with eating 2 donuts yesterday. I guess I need to be more careful. Hard not to be reckless with donuts as they give me the fats and sugars my body craves. Have lost 2 pounds since retearing...

well time for my ghee and milk. i dont think it's making any difference but it sure tastes good. i think i shall try to eat some more olive or coconut oils. actually i just bought some avocado oil to cook with (high smoke point) and may try some of that tomorrow on my boring healthy food that i have grown to crave when i am not craving sugar.

daily report day 9

Postby healthybutt » 21 Mar 2017, 15:16

this am got up at usual time (6:20) and felt like i had to go....but didnt. i usually dont go this early, so i just continued to get ready for work and was more focused on my dog, who i am weaning off a medication, and checking my email to see what the vet said. 25 min later that full feeling in my bum got more pronounced, and it was one of those -- well i can wait till i get to work, or just use a suppository and go now -- so i opted for the latter given that i kind of felt this one might be bulkier and also i could clean and insert a suppository at home (cant do that at work). i was right -- it was bulkier and less soft than yesterday's "perfect" morning BM -- but passed without incident. I am thinking of what it could be....reviewing my diet...

saturday pm: dinner: beans/tofu/carrots some cauliflower mixed with avocado/guac and a slice of toast; soymilk + ghee
sunday am: toast with cauliflower and kale, chai tea, 2 BMs (7:30, 9:30 -- soft and 2nd one on the looser side)
sunday lunch: veggie burger w/ tons of avo, smoothie (donut, strawbs, bluebs, soy milk, chia)
sunday pm: donut, apple sauce, green tea, 1 fiber pill, soymilk + ghee
monday am: perfect BM ~8 am, breakfast: toast, veggie burger with beans/tofu/carrot
monday lunch: frozen yogurt with fruit and browni chunks
monday dinner: egg, rice, black beans/tofu/carrot with veggie burger; glycerin suppos --> BM ~8pm; soymilk + ghee
tues am: toast, avo oil (yum!), veggie burger and tofy/beans/carrots; chai tea; 6:45 am BM (glyc)

Ok so basically I think cauliflower might be the reason things were so "perfect" on monday. also could possibly be i was staying better hydrated. work has a way of dehydrating since i sometimes forget to drink water for a couple hrs when i am focused on a task.

Interesting to see this -- I would actually like to chart this. It sounds crazy eh? But I have a master's in science so finding a correlation is right up my alley!

Also reminder to self: make a fiber cheat sheet. I am learning web development and was actually thinking that would be a cool app to make -- just need to get the data from the USDA and somehow make it accessible. who knows, there probably already is an app for that. it would seem like there would be one for nutrition since a lot of people have medical conditions in which they need to monitor their diet. for example, my dad has congestive heart failure and has to monitor his sodium intake, my mother has diabetes and has to watch her sugars.

squatty potty time!

Postby healthybutt » 23 Mar 2017, 13:25

I finally bought a squatty potty (SP) yesterday at costco -- and I've already used it twice! I will say it does seem to slide out faster/more smoothly, but I dont think it will matter if I am not careful about diet and magnesium. However, maybe over time I will notice a difference, not just after 2 uses.

Yesterday was the first day I indulged in real pizza -- just a slice of cheese from costco. Costco uses a lot of cheese. I also had a cup of ice cream with strawberries. Other than that my diet was pretty standard and I ate ~25 g of fiber...but I did take 900 mg of magnesium just in case; usually I'd feel fine with less. Today's BM was still formed, a little looser than usual (like between a 4 and 5 on bristol scale), but not runny or watery. Yay!

I amde my fiber chart and am keeping track of everything.

Also went to naturopath yesterday and she did acupuncture on me and because I was already healed did some spots that were supposed to strengthen tissues and keep the blood in the veins. I want to think it had something to do with spleen qi. it felt great -- i LOVE acupuncture -- and i ended up falling asleep. i just realized i forgot to tell her i have a small hemmie because of all of this, but i feel like her treatment was supposed to help with that. next month i will mention it and see what she recommends. i might also ask for more diet and herb recommendations but i know horse chestnut, witch hazel, and ginger are all good for that from the supplements she gave me: http://www.wisewomanherbals.com/index.c ... condary=10. However, the product has a lead warning and so I didnt take many of them. Also, I dont like not having any quality control on supplements -- that's a big deal. It's one reason I dont trust many supplements unless they have been tested by an independent lab, like labdoor.

Healthybutt - just read through some of your posts, glad to hear you're doing well!

I just wanted to make a recommendation as per the right sphincter - if you can, see a pelvic floor physiotherapist. They're specialists at treating this kind of thing, and can really help you try and relax those muscles with massage, trigger points, exercises, and lots of other techniques. They often can teach you how to use a wand to do gentle massage and dilation at home - I bet this would really help you out!
Oh and the squats potty is great!

Thanks Gilmore Girl! I had asked my doc about PT -- he kind of looked at me blankly and said just manage it. So I felt I was kind of out of options other than magnesium. I even briefly thought I should see a hypnotist and do some yoga poses a friend recommended.

Interestingly I am reading a book called Cure: A Journey into the Science of Mind Over Body and just got to the chapter devoted to IBS...and just got to the part where the Doctor gets trained in hypnotism to try on his patients (he specialized in IBS).

Thanks and I will definitely look into it. I am so far doing great with management but of course I know there will come a day where I get off track and have another fissure -- it's not if, it's when.

Update, more like "Down-there-date"

Postby healthybutt » 25 Apr 2017, 02:56

Well crap (hahaha!) it's been almost a month since I've been on here. I had to go back in time to see when I actually had my last fissure (3/12). Time flies when your poop is soft!

So today I was feeling down not about my butt, but other things, and then I remembered the last time i felt down like this was when i was in fissure hell, and writing always helped me sort things out and sometimes even cheer me up!

So the big development is that I made new suppositories using a mold for bullet-shaped ice cubes. It's pretty hilarious sticking a bullet-shaped suppository up your butt, and I bet there are people who probably find it sexy. Haha! Anyway, I changed up the recipe from my previous "butt lozenge" suppository experiment and found that cocoa butter really keeps things up there with no or minimal leakage, even with other oils mixed in...I think I did roughly 3:1 coconut oil to cocoa butter (with a few drops of other oils mixed in), since I wanted to see how far the cocoa butter would stretch before i got the oil stains again. 3:1 seems fine. I froze the suppos, but i think the fridge would be fine since cocoa butter holds up well even when warm (it took a while to get it to melt -- higher melting point than coconut oil for sure)...actually making a note to move the tray to the fridge.

other than that, things have been uneventful, even with travel. i dont take chances really...and i found that when i was eating more whiel traveling, i also pooped more and didnt need as much magnesium -- i also found out that i generally poop out stuff within 20-24 hrs of ingestion -- thanks spicy thai food for that bit of self-discovery. my stool could be a little firmer -- i still think i overdo it a little on magnesium, but i generally have a 4 - 5 on the bristol scale, and occasionally a 6 when i am unlucky.

squatty potty didnt make a huge difference for me, but i think the change in posture does help it slide out better. that could all be in my head, but i'll take that.

I also read the book Cure: A Journey into the Science of Mind over Body by Jo Marchant, and it was interesting to read how placebos work and how just thinking you feel better really does make you better sometimes. A lot of IBS stuff in there. It was a good read, altho it surprisingly didnt have anything on recreational drug use, which to me is the ultimate mind over body experience. i never considered using marijuana for this condition as that part of my life is over and done with, but i bet it would help reduce the pressure down there (dont folks with glaucoma use some kind of marijuana derivative to decrease eye pressure to prevent further thinning of their optic nerve? i believe so...)...well that may be for some enterprising anal fizz researcher to investigate. But i bet it would help with the pressure (altho it would probably ruin the healthy high fiber diet lol).

Well that was fun..writing about my broken (and now healed) butt is always uplifting.
