Thanks for answering mbp - I'm pretty sure I still do have hypertonic sphincter, but probably wouldn't have pain sans hems - maybe they'll be able to band them who knows. I'll just have to wait to see what the surgeon says!

The stomach pain and diarrhea and gas is so so slowly going away...the improvement is so subtle each day, I only notice it when I think back a couple weeks. But still transit issues - is done with the old gastro and hopefully the new one will have some ideas!!

oh no!!!! Spring colds suck! Well take it easy for a couple of days and you'll be back at it asap!

Had my appointment with my surgeon today, and I will be going ahead with LIS (and ONLY LIS) on April 4th.

She was able to do a rectal exam but it was painful. She said I do still have a fissure which was a surprise to me as I have had no pain during a bm or bleeding for a long time, only spasms. She says the sphincter still feels tight but is better than before.

She said I do have some external hems but that they do not explain my pain. She said they are not nearly bad enough and are not at all thrombosed. However, she did say she will be taking a closer look at everything in great detail when I'm out for the op.

She's confident this will relieve my pain, and that if I still have pain after then she will be sending me to a specialist unit at a hospital in a different city.

She said she is going to be conservative with the surgery, and that I have virtually 0 worries about incontinence etc. She's confident I will be able to manage pain with Tylenol.

Very nervous, but soon it will be done and hopefully things will improve quickly. I'm expecting it to get a little worse before it gets better, as my pain right now is minimal as long as I lie down lots, but I'm willing to take that if it means I will be back to normal.

Had a rough day - my ibs is now much worse than it was pre-morphine. I have a flare every second day - wake up in pain and it lasts all day.

I phoned the new gastro's office and it turns out they denied my referral as they don't take "second opinions". I explained that it was not a second opinion, that I needed a new doctor because I have grounds for formal complaint with the previous one, but they said if I'm being followed by any gastro already then it's considered a second opinion.

This is a major flaw in the system, in my opinion. Basically, they're telling me I have to wait until my gastro retires before I can see someone else. My psychologist has been adamant that it's important that I find a new doctor - he is aware of the difficulties I've had with him and said that the stress he has caused me is grounds for complaint. But I'm totally trapped.

I will be calling patient advocacy next week to see what I can do. This is very frustrating and disappointing, I just want that man out of my life, and to be treated properly for the pain I'm having.

Definitely a bit of a rant...hopefully things will look up soon.

Wow GG that's a bit wrong
I have changed CRS 3 times, they had decided they wouldn't/couldn't help me so I was free to look for another if I wanted.
You are in pain and this amount of stress can only make it worse....you should be able to concentrate on being as calm as you can before your op not dealing with stupid red tape.
Just keep thinking the LIS may sort out most of your issues as the pain could be radiating from the rectum up as we know all our digestion is linked.
Sending you big hugs and positive thoughts x

Yes thanks mbp! Hoping the LIS will help. And at least if I can get the rectal pain dealt with I can exercise, which will help the ibs.

It's the system here in Canada - I understand that there are lots of people waiting to see specialists, but i think people in my situation are trapped...anywho, concentrating on getting through the next two weeks!

Stomach has been incredibly painful lately. Although the amitryptiline has helped some with diarrhea, I have horrible cramping, mostly in the centre and left side of my upper abdomen all day. It wakes me in the am. I go maybe once a day, but it is like constipated diarrhea - it is very loose, but it is difficult to go.

I decided not to take the amitryptiline last night and see how I do. I did find I had a better sleep without it, surprisingly, as I wasn't having horrible dreams and tensing up.

I'm exhausted from the pain...worried about having this pain on top of surgery pain.

Also, tried calling patient advocacy to switch gastroenterologists...they told me it was not possible. They're leaving me totally stuck. I may consider getting a new gp who will fight for me on this one...my current gp is reluctant and will not pick up the phone on my behalf.

Just want to get better and not have to see any of these doctors!!

Oh and I had my pre-op call appointment yesterday, all as expected. They say I will be in the hospital for around four hours but the procedure will take only 30 min. No food after 11pm the night before, one glass of water or apple juice permitted, then nothing two hours before. Been there, done that lol.

I'm sure that some of the stomach pain could be caused by stress but all that stress can start to go once you have had the LIS
My colon went nuts the second week as everyone knows lol but even I managed to heal eventually.
You will get better as your fissures are healed Hun so your sphincter will be much less tight after the LIS so the spasms should stop pretty quickly
I have my fingers and toes crossed for you Hun x

Thanks mbp! I really hope so.

I am feeling less stomach pain and much much more rumbling today...nervous I will have diarrhea today or in the morning, but at least the pain has eased. I'm wondering if amitryptiline just wasn't right for me. Anyways, we shall see!

GG - just want you to know that I am sending you healing vibes and good wishes. It is only natural for nerves to be flaring ahead of surgery...means you are human! Nerves and stress always flare my symptoms. Less than a week left of waiting -- it will go well and hopefully full recovery will be speedy.

Best - CB
