My surgeon told me to take some Milk of Magnesia if I hadn't had a BM by day 4. As it turned out, I had one that morning, so didn't need to take the laxative. Mine was not very painful at all, but that may have been because I stood over the pot and let it slide out on its own. You should check with your doctor to see if he or she agrees with these recommendations though, because he or she is the one who knows your situation best.

Your muscle can still contract probably because it hasn't been cut fully. That will enable to keep control over your BMs, which is essential. Try and be patient, even though that's a hard thing to do. Healing will take a few weeks, and your body needs all the help it can get. Have you been advised to take regular warm baths?
8/16-12/16: Fissure due to antibiotics
5/17: Botox to sphincter, fissure healed
9/19: Trigger point injections and pudendal nerve block
11/19: Botox to pelvic floor
8/20: Botox to pelvic floor in new location.

I haven't had this surgery so I can't say what you can do specifically to help with healing. I've had other surgeries though and the best you can do is take good care of yourself and have someone to help you with chores so you don't have to move around as much. Eat healthy, easily digestible food, get plenty of sleep, let go of worries, and get some fresh air at least once a day.

I don't think mine got better until 12 weeks after the surgery. Good luck, you sound like you are doing well considering you are only 5 days post-op.
