No, please do not feel sorry for me. I'm doing okay. I've healed 100% each time and I do believe I have healed this time too. I'm not in any pain. This fissure has probably helped save my life as I've looked at my diet more closely and I've lost about 16 lbs so far. I've sought out a dietitian and am considering a psychologist to help me deal better with stress. My fissure was the result of a week of bad food plus stress over my job and a promotion. I mean major stress. I hated working the evening rotation as I couldn't see my kid at night and my schedule was all over the place. My family aka my husband would plan weekend outings and tell me a day or 2 prior and of course I'd be scheduled on that weekend. So when a 9-5 mon-fri posting at work came up, instead of just giving it my best, it turned into a my life will be over if I don't get this. Then, boom, fissure.

Anyway, I'm on the right track with it all now. 14 weeks of healing today, pain free.

I know that you must be frustrated. Feb is a long wait. I was there back in September, waiting to try to get a referral to a dietitian and maybe a colorectal surgeon then was told it would be 6 weeks to even get in to get the referral. Time did go fairly quickly. It will for you too. My fingers are crossed that you get some answers and solutions.

Oh and the nurse took my concerns about hypothyroidism seriously given my borderline result 10 yrs ago and my family history so I have a blood test to do to check for that sometime soon.

That's great that you think you've healed and good of you to help share your experience and advice with others on here.
I am thinking my hypothyroidism is related to my issues with sluggish digestion etc. be interested to see how you get on. I also agree stress is a major factor in peoples health and immune system.
14 weeks pain free sounds like you've cracked it.
I've been a little better but still in some discomfort and still not really sure if it's a fissure or not. My diet has gone badly wrong over xmas but I'm getting it back now!
Did you get the 9-5 job by the way?

Yes, I did get the job. I love it.

A few days ago I felt a familiar tug pinch on the fissure spot, not painful and not a retear, but enough to make me freak out. Then, I ended up with gastro. The anti nausea meds of course cause diarrhea. By the evening, I wasn't well enough to take my cocktail of stool softeners. So I managed movicol once in the morning and then in the evening instead of my 3 doses.

What a conundrum! I've never been so unsure of what to do in my life. 4 days now of just 2 doses of movicol (or miralax) I tried adding in my other stool softener and that didn't go well. I wasn't sure if it was a thunderstorm or my stomach. I felt fine but man the gurgles. I won't be taking that tonight. lol. But seriously, I've never been faced with such a problem. I think I'll stick with only 2 doses and pray it's enough. I've been wondering if reducing my softeners would help but I've been too scared to do it. This has forced my hand so fingers crossed. I keep telling myself it's not the worst thing in the world but it's hard not to fixate on it.

Anyway, for your pains, I suffered generalised spasms after diarrhea during this latest ordeal that definitely were not fissure related as in totally the other side and moved around. It was irritation. I applied a yeast/diaper rash cream on it and it helped immensely. I wonder if a yeast/thrush cream or a diaper rash cream might help protect and prevent your pains?

Congrats on the job!!
Oh goodness - are you feeling any better? It's hard to know re stool softeners as you don't want to end up reopening and starting again. I hope you've found the right balance now and if you've reduced to two a day that's great.

I do use nappy cream - one here called Bepanthan - it's not as thick as other nappy/diaper cream. I have not tried thrush cream. I think I will wait to see the specialist now before trying any new things. The only thing I might try is moving my BM to evening - not sure how. Just I'm not in pain until after a BM. It could shorten my painfulness which starts after a BM usually after breakfast.

Keep me posted on how you are going

Yeah I don't know how to move the BM time. I've never been regular until now but I have 2-3 BM a day. Maybe adjusting times you take any stool softeners will help?

I've done quite well and moved Bm to afternoon by having a late breakfast although I do drink as I'm worried I ought to. I tend to only go once a day which is much better than my old once every two days. My system is very sluggish always has been. Anyway this has helped and funnily enough I've been less sore last few days in general. This has happened before though I think it's gone then back it's back a few days later.

Hope your gastro has cleared up now?

That's fantastic. I really hope it continues to improve for you :D

Yep, I'm over the gastro. I increased my stool softeners back to about where I was before as I felt pain at the fissure site last week when my BM started to be more firm. No retears though and it was ok.

Someone recommended slippery elm to try as it coats the BM. Hahaha....the first night was fine. The second night...there was much hurling and whale sounds. Ended up running to the toilet way too often and now everything is very sore, especially the fissure. Not during the BM, but in general. Oh Bother. Blah. I've learned my lesson. Stick with what works. Thankfully, it's less sore this morning.

oh no I won't try that either then!! I'm glad you are feeling better now. Fingers crossed it will stay good.

I'm still in bit of respite mode as well. Not been nearly as sore last half a week. It's done this before though so I'm probably not out the woods yet. Still four weeks till me appointment with specialist.

Fingers are crossed that the next 4 weeks continue to improve.

I was indecisive on whether it was just irritated or if I'd I it. I went the irritated route and avoided rectogesic. I was right. It's cleared right up and back to normal almost. I may lay off the cream to allow the skin to breathe from time to time.

I saw the dietitian who arranged a physio appointment for me, but it's with an exercise one. If they don't cover pelvic floor, I've found a place 15 mins away that will cover pelvic floor and constipation issues.

But anyway 16 weeks of no blood or retears today. 36 weeks until the 1 year anniversary. I've resigned myself to stop messing with my stool softeners for the next 36 weeks. I'm pain free on them. If I still can't reduce them then, then I will get the crs referral.
