Oh and in case anyone is following to hear about how the antibiotics are working, I'd say I noticed a marked improvement after taking them for 4 days. More updates coming soon as I have an appointment with my CRS later in the week.

That's great news so the infection was an abscess completely separate from the fissure? I've had an abscess on my skin tag before that was painful but my doctor gave me an antifungal antibacterial cream and it cleared it up in a day or two but I had to continue using the cream for five days I believe but I'm guessing yours is internal, sounds like your on track anyway.

Well, I'm on my third course of antibiotics (my poor immune system!) and am waiting for my insurance company to authorize a surgery to repair a fistula I've developed... :groan:

Why are you on antibiotics? Do you have an active infection? Or taking them just incase?

Hey, Missy. Yeah, I've had an active infection for at least a month. I'm feeling pretty awful and have had low grade fevers off and on. I actually have one right now. I think my CRS misdiagnosed my pain as stemming from a fissure, but it seems it was actually an abscess that has since caused a fistula. I feel like there's a lot of misdiagnosis associated with these ailments. I also asked to be tested for Crohn's, but my CRS didn't think it was necessary. Just waiting for my insurance company to approve a surgery now.

Oh ok I'm sorry your going through this on a lighter note at least your fissure hasn't been around 2 long so chances of overcoming this are good, will you be having lis?

Thanks, Missy! According to my CRS, my fissure is healed and now all my pain is secondary to the abscess/fistula. I guess I should move over to the fistula subforum :kittylaugh:

That's not positive at all Missy, a fistula is much worse to treat than a fissure. Maybe we can someday better understand why one can lead to another, becaus right now it is not clear at all.
