Fissure friendly sweeteners?

Postby tightbutt5678 » 11 Jun 2019, 12:33

What is the best sweetener?

- I use honey loads but maybe I am over-doing it.
- unsure about jam...
- I eat dark choc 85% and don't have any issues
- any other sweeteners that might be better? Agave syrup, anything else?
- February 2019 : Fissure
- Tried all of the creams, perfecting the diet, self dilation
- Reduced symptoms significantly but still not healed
- July 2019 : LIS with tag removal

Diet is really important, but I don't think that choosing specific sweeteners is going to make a big difference. Agave and honey are both a mixture of different sugars (fructose, glucose, etc.), just like plain table sugar.

You could make a case for sorbitol which can work as a osmotic laxative (drawing water into the large intestine). Prunes have a high sorbitol content which partly explain their effect on constipation and stool consistency.
20/01: Slowly healing fissure-like wound due to surgery
11/03: Started Diltiazem.
07/06: Barely any pain or blood, but it's not fully healed yet.

Ah ok, interesting comment about the sorbitol. I was mainly asking about different sweeteners because I know honey is a healthier alternative to regular sugar. But I am probably overthinking it all. This fissure has driven me a tiny bit insane no doubt.
