Re: Fiber aids

Maybe I bought a kind they don't make anymore. It was years ago when I bought them. They were like litte formed pea looking things - I remember putting them in water and nothing happened! Does anyone know what I am taking about or have I gone crazy? :)
Has anyone tried the metamucil capsules? Are they as good as the powder?

For the M. caps - see my first post in this thread ; ) !
I am now really curious about M. "peas" LOL. Are you sure they are supposed to look like that ? What does it say on a container ? Maybe some moisture came in by accident and made the powder form "pearls" and than died out so "pearls" lost ability to dissolve Image
How are you doing Image ??? Is all pain gone !!! I hope so Image

I took the Citrucel tabs this morning again, but also just purchased a Metamucil-like powder (Walgreen's brand since it was cheaper). On the jar it states that it can be taken 3 x's daily. I asked the pharmacist about it, and she recommended only taking it once daily. Seems that a person could take it 3 x's if necessary since that is what it states on the jar. Welcome any comments/feedback. Thanks in advance!
Just a thought--we should probably all buy some stock in some of these companies that produce fiber. Could be a win-win situation for us as we continue to buy the products.

Fiss- I think your on to something! There has to be some scientific explanation for the beads. Does the metamucil taste good? I saw an add for a pink lemonade flavor. Do you all just take one glass a day?
I am feeling very good for the most part. I have not had a painful bowel movement in about 2 months. Image I am afraid to get off my nirto - the doc wants me on it at least until mid June - even though he says the wound is healed. I noticed a pinching feeling down there today. This is a sensation I have ffelt in the past. I think it is from the scar streching. Anyone else ever have this feeling? Or am I still crazy? Image

Cheryl - if on the powder it says "Psyllium" than it is same thing as Metamucil but I found out by trail and error that even all "Psylliums" are not alike ! Image Metamucil for me has the best effect - maybe it matters how small the particles are - I am guessing - but there is definitely difference in how different brands of the same thing work.
Since natural fiber is "natural" you can start with one time and than proceed
with 2 than 3. I started with full dose immediately without any problems since I ate a lot of fiber before all of this anyway. The only side effect would be too much gas and don't forget TON of water if you start with fiber supplements because 1- they can not work without water
2- you can end up with opposite effect
Best of luck !
Jen Image - so nice to hear that you are doing fiiiiiiine Image !!! Don't go off anything too soon - no reason for rush - trust me on this one !
I take now 2-3 glasses a day of Metamucil - I like orange with natural sugar - I pretend that it is regular orange juice Image I also always carry single packs in my purse and have it any time I eat outside. Makes a major difference for me in "consistency" of the poop. I bought Pink Lemonade the other day but it only comes with Aspartame and my older daughter "gave me a lesson" LOL how unhealthy it is so I decided to "pass" it. She is in collage but also works as a gymnastic coach part time so she is a health freak Image . I mean, I knew about all of the controversy about artificial sweeteners but thought a little bit occasionally won't hurt LOL - but she is right - better to stay away from them.
Pinching feeling - yes - I had it for the longest time - it means that fissure is freshly healed and sensitive to the max for new injury - now is the most critical time for you dear Jen - try to stay on your regiment for long time to make sure that it heals once and for all !!!
All the best Image

I have a lot of that pinching sensation too from my incision site. I can't wait for that to go away. It just makes everything feel so vulnerable which I guess it is. Maybe it is a good thing because it reminds us to watch out!

Glad you are doing well, Jen!

Yes. I think I definitely set my alarm off this morning. Nothing like rear pain to make a gal panic a bit. Too bad there aren't pre-alarms!

Fiss -
I am glad I am not alone with the pinching feeling - I mean I am sorry your my partner with this, but it feels good that someone else has a pinching feeling in their bum from time to time. I actually used to have this feeling on a dailey basis. Unfortunatly, I had it today, and it made me realize it has been about 3 weeks since I last felt it. That worries me! It may actually be a good sign though - a sign to keep me on track with my AF treatments. I thought I was healed and I was not going to refill my nitro - but I am going to now. I don't care if I am on the dang stuff for 6 months!
I think I am going to try those metamucil to go packages you were talking about - sounds pretty cool! I am still always learning something new here! Image
