That is good to hear, Patty, and I read your other post. Nice to hear good news from someone!!! Congratulations! Healing a fissure is HARD WORK. Pat yourself on the back. Thanks for your feedback about the Botox.

Amen, Patty! At least we have this group of shoulders to cry on and vent to, right?? My gut feeling is that I might need to have Botox, but I am still trying to be optimistic that the ointment will heal the situation. I am assuming that you tried ointment(s) prior to trying Botox? I wish there was a poll about the Botox (who was helped and who wasn't), but since everyone is individual, the poll might not accurately predict if one would be helped with Botox or not.

if you want an intermediate step before trying botox, cheryl, since you are open to eating mindfully already, then give macrobiotics a try between ointment and botox.
i know macrobiotics is not the golden ticket for everyone but it was for me.

Cheryl -
How long have you been on the ointment? How long are you going to wait before the Botox? I think I mentioned this in another thread today already, but I am on my second cream (nitro) because the first cream I got (nifedipine) did not work. It might be worth you time to try another kind if this does not work for you, but then again, that was just my situation.
By the way, I love your photo! You always have such great ones! Who is that on the bike??? :)

HAPPY ASS,
I have ordered a macrobiotic cookbook but haven't yet received it. Did you get healed with an ointment?
Jen,
That is my son who I dearly love riding his bike. He lives in a group home in another town. Thanks for inquiring.

no i didn't use ointments. my CRS never prescribed them to me. i was already along my 4th year of fissure torture - where once the actual fiber change to 40g per day did work but then i got lazy when traveling for work and viola, i got out of sync - so since i had already been dealing with it long term, we booked the LIS and we discovered i had something resembling a fistula so we added a fistulotomy to the surgery on top of a colonoscopy.
the fistulotomy freaked me out especially when i saw a surgery clip for the fistula plug on the internet somewhere and then discovered the variety of fistulas - horseshoe fistula was the one that sent shivers down my spine - and i was so desperate and in shock that during a quick vacation getaway, i got sick on a spinach salad from cheesecake factory - i found my macrobiotic book (the macrobiotic guide by michio kushi) - and i changed my diet instantly. it wasn't the most fun thing to do because i wasn't use to seaweeds but in the process i discovered so many wonderful things to eat, lost a lot of weight, and felt really good all around - and in the process of one month, my LIS and fistula surgery were cancelled by the CRS as he saw remarkable healing.
i kept my colonoscopy and he was impressed at how clean and healthy everything was inside and that i should have no problem healing on my own.
i kept up the macrobiotic diet for another good six months and then slowly came back to my normal way of eating.
all i had left was laverne and shirley, really just one skin tag but when it gets big and irritated i call it L&S.....
now because i have gained so much weight from other issues and traveling for work, i have returned to macrobiotic eating and am hoping to stick with it for good this time around. there is soooo much more to discover......of course, every now and then i will allow a nice excursion to somewhere normal but make better decisions about what i order on the menu.
if i could, i would be 100% macrobiotic but that is a process and not something i can do overnight. it's a way of life not just a way of eating.
