Thanks Kim! your always so sweet to me! :D
I just don't feel like posting alot because I feel like I am so darn negative and no one wants to listen to a whiner.
However, I have had a weird thought/thing happen that I want to ask. Remember my football sized poo??? Well, I had a really difficult BM on Sunday morning. It felt as if, even though I have no spasms and my spincter is totally relaxed, my poo is so big that it is taring my bum. It seems that an internal sphincter would make the BM's smaller as they leave the body. When I looked at my bum yesterday, I saw the incision (which turned into fissure) and there seamed to be a smaller fissure right next to it. I did take alot of fiber the night before - so maybe that is it. I have never heard of anyone actually getting more fissures from LIS - but when I noticed this small one, I thought maybe I could be the oddball. I am takings lots of MOM now and am maybe wondering if I got this little fissure from swelling down there, as anal swelling causes fissures. I don't have crohn's or colitis because I did have a recent colonoscopy. I maybe thinking way too much into this, but it was so weird seeing that little fissure down there.
Does your BM's ever go back to normal size after LIS? I think that is my issue - My butt is bigger, but now my BM's are also larger.
Also, for those of you who did have LIS, when did things start feeling tighter? I read in a few posts that people felt really loose after surgery, and felt like they partially healed months later?

I know fiber can make stools pretty bulky especially the insoluble kind. And having LIS doesn't mean you never get a fissure again but that if you do it heals very quickly than before.

Don't hesitate to come on here and vent. That's what we are here for! Image

Lecia -
What is insoluble fiber? The night before my difficult BM, I took a bunch of these citrucel chocolate/carmel things I wanted to try. I just read the package, and it just says fiber, not insoluble fiber. I am afraid to take these again and I want to throw them out.

insoluble fiber is bulk forming by absorbing water. If you put a bowl of all bran buds into a bowl and add milk you can watch how they swell. Things like psyllium would be bulk-forming.

Christie and I both like the fiber that is in Digestive Advantage. It is glucomannan and has probiotics in it too and keeps the poo manageable. You should be able to find some at Rite-aide. I haven't tried the candies yet so I don't know anything about them. Do you take a little swig of MOM before you go to bed or take Magnesium supplements?

Lecia -
Is the digestive advantage something you can take as a daily supplement long term? I have been taking MOM for almost 2 weeks since my surgey. I bought some 250 mg mag pills, and I am wanting to switch to them instead of MOM, but I am so afraid to do anything new now that the area down there is healing and is so darn sensitive. I mean - look what happened when I tried the chocolate fiber! Yikes!

Yes, you can take the daily supplement long term. In fact you really only need 1-2 pills a day of it and it does keep things regular and soft. I wouldn't get off the MOM but if you are having big scratchy stools I think you might need a little more. Once things get healed then you can see about switching to magnesium supplements.

Sorry to hear about the fiber fiasco. How is your eating and H20 intake?

That is the thing - my eating has been great as usual. And I always drink a half a gallon of water a day. I feel like I have to be more careful now than before the surgery. :(

Then I would up the mom some. It sounds like it isn't enough to soften things enough. That is what you need when you are healing. We need to keep your bms manageable. Do you go once a day?
