Anyone know if you have the LIS procedure if that means the muscle that creates the painful spasms is gone or does it simply promote healing better? Anyone know? Thnx!

I have had mixed answers from my sugeon on this---when I talked to his chief resident, he said yes....that once you cut the muscle it won't spasm again, so that is why if you get another fissure it will heal quickly. My sugeon said the muscle goes basically back to normal once it is fully healed and that it is hopeful to think it will not spasm next time.
I'm going to bet that it doesn't spasm the next time...

It is my understanding from conversations with my surgeon and what I have read on the net that the surgery permanently weakens the sphincter muscle. Imagine a strectched rubberband that is so strong that it is pulling the two posts together that is is stretched around . The surgeon has cut a third of the rbberband so that it is not as strong . That should be a for keeps thing.
I had spasms on Tues. Surgery Wed. No spasms since.....so I am with Suzyq
