corsi, thanks for asking.my pain is a lot better than before.there is gradual improvement each day.i still cant sit and lifting my son who's around 8.5kg for a long time hurts.my mil will leave to india on monday.hubby has taken off on wed and thursday to help me at home.sis will arrive on friday for 2 weeks.i really dont know how ill cope alone.every morning i go to the toilet in fear and worry after eating anything new.each night i wonder if ive eaten enough fibre and fluids.fear where the pain will all be back again.its affected me so much mentally and i will take a long time to recover from all this.i pray God to give me the strength to go through this difficult time and take good care of my son.

Val,you should always tell them you are neddle phobic and your veins are not easily visible and that you prefer to get it done by a phelbotomist.even i have very thin veins and have a hard time getting blood.even im so scared of needles.i got fed up nurses trying 2-3 times blindly with a vacutaner and then apologising.now,i just take my hubby and tell the nurse if he can do it and they usually agree.hubby has never missed and he's so gentle and i hardly feel any pain.even i would send them off to the path lab if i knew anyone was phobic and i couldnt find any good veins unless it was an emergency or at night.its always a nightmare for me when they try to canulate me as most of them do it atleast twice in theatre.i have to be patient as im a doc.did they say you can go in on the same day?

fissy,im sure its a good omen dreaming of val's surgery.

thanks Pinky and Tabby! Pinky you are so lucky to have a hubby who can do your blood tests! I think they were entirely at fault yesterday because I warned her over and over that i would be a very bad patient and i was extremely blood-phobic, yet she still kept on trying. And she held up the little bottle of blood to show how much she was able to take. My husband was saying, no, hide it, hide it! And all the time she was tapping my arm and talking about veins - it makes me queasy even thinking about it!
I had a really stroppy horrible nurse who seemed to hate me and said a straight NO about going in early on the day, but i asked the doctor and he said it was ok by him as long as the nurses agreed, so me and hubby went up to the actual ward and asked them. She said to ring at the beginning of the week of the surgery and ask but it shoudnt be a problem.
Thats great news you are feeling better each day Pinky, I'm sure you'll cope alone although its obviously a lot better if someone is there to help out. It will take a while to get over the mental torture this brings.. but you'll get there, you will get over it eventually.
How are you doing Tabby? Are things getting any better?

oh dear val,she does seem like a horrible nurse to me.how could she be so insensitive?some nurses are not very nice and i know how it feels.it makes a huge difference when they are caring and sympathetic.Hubby cant do my blood tests all the time esp when i go to theatre and i dread it.some seem so careless when looking for veins.i think they just want to give it a blind try.hope you have good care and better nurses next time.
I hope i'll get better soon val.i feel i need to heal mentally more than physically.

Dont worry if the mental healing takes a long time - my surgery was in january and i still panic and look for blood each time! I think a lot depends on your normal mental outlook - ie if you're an anxious person anyway. My favourite words are "what if?" and I worry over everything, so it was inevitable that i would panic about all this! I dont know how to get rid of the thoughts - i guess it just gets a bit better with time. Things will get better for you, physically and mentally. Image

Val -
How often does your fissure act up? I know you said it is good most of the time. Just wondering!

First Pinky....it's good that you see some improvement Image
About you dreading going to the toilet in the morning now...it's only normal that you do, we all do.
What can you do prevent something painful happening when having a BM? The same diet every day? Make sure you use the best (for you) amount of stool softener? Do whatever you know will make you relax more, so that you dread the BM as little as possible.
If you know that he will "disturb" when you need to be alone when having your BM give him something that you know will occupy him for 5 - 10 minutes. I used that trick sometimes when my boys were small as my boys are born less than 2 years apart, and I spent most of the time alone as my husband worked and/or travelled quite a bit. I even bought small toys for them to play with if and when I desperately needed them "leave me alone". Do whatever you have to do Pinky...use the tricks you need to use.
About the mental part, I think fissure/butt/pain, etc. change people...it is hard having pain and discomfort.
Take care Pinky, be nice to your self Image
