I did not think the mag citrate was bad at all. I did not go to the bathroom that much. The Go-lightly they gave me for my colonoscopy was horrible.
Will you be sedated? Or awake?

the nurse said not to eat all day today or tomorrow, but my appt is over 24 hours away...i'm gonna eat lunch today but then just have broth for dinner and breakfast tomorrow. it's gonna be really hard.
jen - i'll be awake as far as i know. it's so spur of the moment, i have no idea. did the mag citrate give you diahrea or liquid BMs? or did it just make you go normal? i'm supposed to take it at 6 tonight but i'm scared.
my BM today was so perfectly formed and soft but the pain today is worse than it's been in awhile. things are so up and down. if it's too soft it burns all day, if it's too formed it hurts all day...basically it just hurts all day. exactly the same pain as i've ALWAYS had, despite all 3 surgeries. i'm praying harder than ever before for some answers.

I've had 2 flex sigs and they weren't bad. I was awake for both, and I am a big baby for everything. For the first one I just had to take a Fleet enema as I recall--it was about 10 years ago. Good luck and try to relax during the procedure.

The mag citrate gave me the minor runs...I really did not think it was that much worse than taking a large dose of MOM.
Let us know what happens! I was asleep for my colonoscopy, so I don't remember anything.

well the exam wasn't too bad, it was actually kind of interesting seeing inside my butt and seeing the source of my pain for so long. there's nothing seriously wrong with me - no chrons, IBD, proctitis or anything like that. unfortunately there is some bad inflammation in the anal canal along with some "fissure-type" splits. it's in the area which has the MOST nerves of the anus and that's why it's causing me SO MUCH PAIN.
sadly for me, the dr couldn't offer ANY advice on how to cure this after 3 surgeries. he said he's seen this maybe once in the 25 years he's been practicing and that person had a surgery to remove and stitch together the whole area. i am not having another surgery, no question about that.
so all he could say is "give it some time and hope it heals itself". YAY (sarcasm).
on another note, i've been doing my own online research and found a condition called "anusitis" which is inflammation of the anal canal that causes pain, burning and itching. it seems similar to my symptoms, even though the GI dr dismissed my diagnosis. I've ordered this OTC product called "Anurex" which is used to treat anusitis. it's a cold stick thing that you insert and hold in place in the anal canal for 8 minutes twice a day. it should arrive in the mail next week. i figure at this point i have to try everything.
i'm completely hopeless and depressed after my pointless appointment but i'm not giving up.

I'm glad the exam wasn't too bad. Be careful with stuff ordered on line. I ordered an ointment from Malaysia about a year ago for hemroids which eventually caused me an unbearable itch. I don't know where you live, but Mayos has seen many cases which were supposedly hopeless. I felt hopeless b/4 I went there. I was ready to have my colon taken out if necessary. Just remember--you have not yet exhausted all possibilities. Good luck!!

So glad you made it through the exam. You learned something but dang it, you'd think they could do something to help you. I really wonder what use the medical profession is when it comes to more tricky scenarios like ours.

Do you think seeing an alternative doctor or a DO might be helpful? I found out a lot of my burning was caused by GI pathogens and that I had no good bacteria in my gut. I also would get yeast infections too and that contributes to the burning. They put me on some supplements that helped. Have you tried the glutamine yet?

I have heard of anurex and have thought about trying it when my hems were so out of control. You'll have to tell me what you think.

I am sorry that they couldn't provide more direction. It just seems pointless to have a test and not have anything they can do. I understand your predicament. But so glad you are not giving up. There is really mroe to try-maybe a more holistic approach.

Do you think your gyn problems you had are related at all to the anal problems?
