On the surgery: I got a fissurein Jan 2006. I told my drs. it was infected but they wouldn't believe me. Come dec 2006, I got tired of the fissure not healing and of the sore lump--not skin tag, lump--on the side of my anus, and I pressed on it hard. Out came puss and my drs. finally believed I had an abscess. they put me on a huge dose of flagyl for two months (2000 mg/day) to try and clear up the abscess, but since it had been around for so long, it had epithelialized nicely and the drugs wouldn't penetrate it. so in mid feb 2007 they brought me into the OR and cut my anus from above my fissure to the outside--about 1 1/2-2 inch long cut down to the muscle.
Since then I have actually been healing. The botox helped me with the last bit of fissure that was deep inside and most subject to the spasms. Now the pain I feel is from a roid I recently got that was irritated by one of the injections. i wouldn't say I'm sured yet, but I have not had fissure pain for about a week (knock on wood).
About the weight: I mentioned weight because I an on the thin side 5'9" and 138lbs. Losing 19 lbs would be bad for me. However, if you have 19 lbs to lose that is grerat, especially if you are eating healthy and cutting out the junk and fat. The flagyl gave me chronic diarrhea that lasted for 2 wks after I stopped taking the meds., and my drs. response to my concern over the loose stools was that if I wasn't loosing weight, I was probably getting mopre benefit from the antibiotics than harm from the diarrhea.
