I'm trying to get the diet thing more in order, but forming decent poops since surgery has become a nightmare, I often think it would be better to try and bulk up the stool somehow and have one or two decent sized poops rather than multiple ones throughout the day, I'm a bit unsure though since my anus isn't used to passing anything big, it's been a loooong time since passing a big Image
Fissy, I'm not doing that bad with the pain tbh, I've been taking Dihydrocodeine regularly, the pain is there but it's very bearable and it's directly coming from the surgical site(s), If I'd of only had LIS then there would be definitely less pain, but combined with the Fissurectomy the pain levels increase.

Hi Elf, hope your still doing great btw!!
It's always good to relate to someone elses post-op pain, I'm an impatient person I guess, or maybe it's because I've waited so damn long to get this thing kicked that I want immediate results (not possible lol) anyway, I do think I'm progressing slowly, times a great healer.
BTW I know what you mean about cleaning the anus to the ninth degree, I'm gradually becoming overly obsessed by it, by the time this nightmare is over I'll have a new illness called OCD Image

I think we have had similar experiences really. The day after the op I found I wasn't in excruiating pain which I was expecting partly because I'm a pessimist and partly cos the internet scared the life out of me! Then after about 3 days I thought surely I should be better by now!
The waiting is really really hard and much worse than the pain (which can be controlled).
As I said after 2 weeks I felt much better just not perfect. So in a week or so I am sure you will be in a better place.

I can honestly say that the pain has only been really excruciating last saturday night after a BM that left me almost disabled, tbh I was very very close to calling an ambulance Image
Fortunately the pain subsided after a few hours!
I agree that the waiting is really hard, mainly because you can't do anything other than rest..

Steve,
Fiss's idea of fewer bm's makes good sense. Could you cut down on the Movicol a bit and maybe use a fiber supplement?? Regulating one's digestive system can be such a challenge. I remember those days!!

Hey cheryl, I've thought about stopping the Movicol but that's just too scary tbh, BTW I'm only taking it once a day as it is, I really need to re-think this thing over..

Hey Steve-
One thing that could cause your frequent bowel movements is the Metronidazole - ie Flagyl. This is the nastiest antibiotic I have ever taken. This caused me to have several watery stools a morning after my surgery which was pure hell. I would wake up at 5am and be in the bathroom on and off for 3 hours for about 3 weeks straight after my surgery while on the stuff. I had a 10 day prescription which I think is the normal duration.
I think it kills all the good flora in the digestive system. I eat a yogurt a day and upped it to two a day after surgery to help try to replace the healthy flora. If you aren't eating yogurt it might be worth a try if you tolerate dairy ok..... It probably took me about a good month to get my system back into check after taking Flagyl. I was just counting the days I was able to stop taking it after surgery. My CRS told me loose stools is a common side affect.
I hope you continue to see improvement.

Steve,
You could try cutting your Movicol dose, instead of stopping it. I measure my Miralax by teaspoons and smaller measurements and adjust upwards and downwards as needed. One of my docs told me to control my bowels and not let them control me (as was the case in the past).

Hey paul, that could be it!! I'm taking a 2 week course of Metronidazole, just got one week left and then hopefully the irregular stools will stop, and they are really irregular, I've been going at unusual times like early morning and late at night, sometimes it's on and off all day which would definitely irritate the surgical site.
As for the yogurt, I used to eat lots of them, I may go back on them now to replace the good guys in my gut that have been ousted by antibiotics.

Cheryl, I don't know how you get your Miralax in the US, but over here in the UK it comes in 13.5g sachets of powder that have to be mixed with exactly ј pint of water, if you required more than one dose of it then you could mix some more and store it in the fridge for up to 6 hours but no longer.
