When I didn't know better, I did go to A&E hoping that they could give me some painkiller or a shot to get rid of the pain ASAP. Been there twice and tried all the painkillers they could give me, namely Tramadol (both oral tablet and injection) and Diclofenac Sodium, which are totally useless. I then realized that those GP can't help anything at all. To a certain degree, Sitz bath has better soothing effect (not that it can get the excruciating pain to stop, only a bit better) than those painkillers I got from the hospital.
dwafts8, a trick I learned from a nurse friend long time ago, if you don't wanna wait for a long time at the A&E, make sure you are transported to the hospital by ambulance and let the paramedics put you on a bed (don't get up and walk in there by yourself) and push you to A&E. While you are on a bed, make sure you shout and scream from the bottom of your heart and let the whole world knows how much pain you're in, kick around if you have to.
If you try to be tough and put up with the pain, they'll classify your case as semi-urgent or even not urgent and you'll be sitting there waiting and watching people whose case doesn't look serious but classified urgent got attended before you do and you'll be there suffering your agony in silence.
