not sure what to do

Postby Guest » 16 Jan 2012, 06:05

Hi everyone, totally random question but just wondering if ibs and fissures go hand in hand or are totally seperate problems? Its just I suddenly seem to have got a problem with bread, if I have a sandwich I get awful pains in my tummy hours later that won't go away and I'm really windy and can't stop myself (sorry for too much info) but I never usually have that problem. Just wondered why its suddenly come about? Sorry if its totally unrealated and I'm asking silly questions but although I've had this fissure about 17 months I don't really know an awful lot about it (when I've been examined doctors have just said its a fissure no wonder your in pain here's something for it or we'll do the botox injections and that`ll sort it, also even when they examined me when I was under general anesthetic they didn't explain what they'd done or found, and its never been explained where it is, what I should be doing/not doing. So I appolgoise if I seem a bit dumb but I really am curious.

It seems as though, If I am remembering correctly, people that have IBS, tend to have more problems not only are you dealing with the IBS, but fissure as well. Have you recently started upping your fiber intake?? Too much fiber to fast can really give you alot of gas!! If you read the threads here you will see, everyone ups their fiber. I don't take supplements they constipate me, everyone is different. I eat 20-25 grams of fiber everyday, drink at least 8 8oz glasses of water and take nice warm baths, and take 17g of Miralax a day. It is really important to have soft BM's and not strain or push. The Miralax, fiber and water all help that happen. When your fissure is active,if you are having spasms, the spasms keep the fissure open and prevent it from healing. The tub baths help relax the sphincter by increasing the blood flow to the area. Also, Ibuprofen really helps take the edge off, as does a nice walk. I hope this helps you. Feel better soon.

Hi,
Before my fissure came about i started to get cramps in my stomach just below my left rib cage. I went to see the doctor about this a few times and she said it was probably just trapped wind and prescribed me some IBS tablets. Anyhow these cramps continued and eventually made me constipated which is why the fissure originally came about. So i would say yes there is a link between IBS and fissures - strangely enough i have not really suffered with these stomach cramps since the day i was diagnosed as having a fissure.
When you are examined with the camera they are looking to see if anything else is going on that may have caused the fissure or any other nasty for that matter. If they have not mentioned anything the chances are it must be ok (but they should have told you this).
The fissure normally starts at the entrance to the anus and extends inside - if you actually squat above a mirror you will probably be able to see part of it.

Thanks for replying, I don't know what to do, I'm soooo fed up of this fissure and the pain and uncomfortable feeling and now trying to eat more fibre and get more baths in ... Hard work when you have a 17 month old whose running about, throwing tantrums all the time and wanting to help or do whatever your doing. Then as soon as hubby gets home from work I go out the door to work till 8:30 then home, quick dinner watch an hour of tv and bed, then my daughter wakes me up about 1 then its all starts again the next morning, I'm finding it hard sometimes, there's always something needs doing, I do all the housework in the house as hubby works full time and I'm home all day, then I work evenings so I'm either entertaining my daughter or cleaning or working, never seem to have time for me, to have the baths, think about a better diet or anything. Sorry I'm feeling sorry for myself today. I'll shut up now.

please don't feel like you have to shut up!!! You can rant on, that's what this place is for. I can't imaging having this and dealing with a toddler. Thankfully, my kids are 27 and 28. I was a single parent for a long time raising young ones and I know all the stuff that needs to be done. Don't feel like you are wonder woman!!! The dust will be there tomorrow. Take the time to get in the tub, even if it is only a couple of times a day not only will it help you physically, it is really good for relaxing and unwinding.

Thanks Sue, I know your right, but feel like a failure if the hoovering is left undone or the dusting, I rush about like a mad women trying to keep my house clean but with a toddler and a husband who is quite messy and having such a tiny house doesn't help, its always 1 thing after another, and like I said I do all the housework which I prefer as he's rubbish but at weekends I do none except what needs it like washing up etc, and then Monday mornings like today I have to hoover and usually last nights washing up as I work all day Sunday I don't wanna do it and noone else does it, but lastnight luckily I did it cos I was bored so todays been easier, but tomorrow I'll have to do all upstairs and changed beds and all downstairs and stairs as my Mum and sis are coming Wednesday and I always ensure its spotless when they come as my Mum`s house is soooo bad we don't go there cos a toddler in such filthy condition is hard work, so when she comes here I like to show I can be a good Mum, keep the house nice and work so I'm not like her.

Just tried a quick hot bath as just put my daughter down for a nap, and like the last week (never had this this bad before) it actually physically hurts to sit in the bath, it makes my eyes water, its hurts my entire bottom right up to the top of the cheeks almost my back, its like a sharp stabbing/shooting pain that makes me jump and lay on my side, does anyone else get this, its weird how it goes soooo high up to the top near my back.

Don't sit!!! fill the tub and lay down on your back. I put my legs just rest them on the side of the tub. You don't want any pressure on your bottom. Just lay there and relax.

Ok tried again and your right Sue, much better, everyone always says sit in the bath, even doctors but no one ever said don't sit, actuallt lay and relax, it worked, feel a lot better, it hurt when I had to sit up to get myself out but all good otherwise. Thanks Sue xx
