Have you tried over-the-counter Miralax? Stool softeners never worked for me, but Miralax has been an absolute Godsend! It helps keep my stool soft. I take it in addition to Benefiber (1/2 dose of Miralax; 9 grams of Benefiber every day), as well as a high fiber diet (Quaker High Fiber Maple & Brown Sugar Oatmeal, Fiber One Cereal, etc.). Although I am still dealing with my fissure, the addition of Miralax has really helped with the pain during AND after my bowel movements. Good luck!

I also hate drinking plain water, but I absolutely LOVE Propel flavored water (especially the GRAPE!). I can drink it all day long! My CRS told me to drink around 2 liters of water a day (this does include flavored water, but it does NOT include juices, coffee, soft drinks, etc.). As any good CRS will tell you, LOTS OF FIBER WITHOUT LOTS OF WATER = CONCRETE.

I don't think "a lot" of grilled chicken is good, any kind of meat does not have fibre, so they tend to make stool hard. So does dairy.
Too much raw vegetables are hard on the fissure also, I made that mistake at first and wondered why things are worse. The best fibre food in my diet is beans, navy, pinto, red kidney - I alternate between them all and eat them every day. All cooked vegetable are good. Apples and oranges are good also. Ground flax seed is good fibre; you can sprinkle that on other foods, mix it into yogurt or applesauce.

Torture,
You know, diet wise, just don't do anything in excess. You will make yourself miserable if you restrict your diet too much and IMO that won't help the healing process.
Sounds like you have a good diet as it is. Try the miralax, or prune juice. Chew foods thoroughly.
I like watered down juice instead of water and herbal teas to break up the monotony of water, water, water.
Sugary water drinks are not a great idea, so keep it weak.
All you want is to ensure that your BM is soft and easy to pass.
I wouldn't do the hydrocortizone for too long (no more than the two weeks it says on the box). It can thin the skin which will just make matters worse. I have yet to read of anyone saying that hydrocortizone helped their fissure heal. you'd be better off just using some virgin coconut oil. You can apply it with a qtip if your finger is too painful. This is IMO of course.
Have you seen a doc? Preferably a CRS (colorectal surgeon). You will heal fast if you can get a different topical like nifedipine or nitroglycerine.
walking helps bring more blood circulation to that area. So if it isn't too painful, try to get out and walk each day.
Hope you are doing better today!

torture,
Try Miralax and chew your chicken very well... I chew chicken, which i eat a lot, about three times as much as I feel like i need to... make it a mush. I do a lot of fruit and whole wheat and take fiber suppliments.
I go out and eat on the weekends, pretty much whatever I like, but I always chew, chew, chew, chew... etc.
good luck Image

Instead of the Nitro, you may want to ask your CRS about Nifedipine ointment. My CRS no longer prescribes Nitro because of the terrible side effects (headaches). He said the Nifedipine is just as effective without the side effects. You might want to also ask about Dialtizem. It didn't work very well for me, but it has worked for lots of other people.
