Why so much gas and why can't I pass it?

Postby GG » 30 Jan 2013, 20:08

Lately I feel like I have so much gas! Is it coming from the spasms and inflammation? And why does it feel like I can hardly get any air out unless I spread my buttocks apart? Spasms and inflammation?

Yes, the gas is probably from the fiber and stool softener. Most people find this diminishes as their body adjusts. Yes, the reason it is hard to pass is because of the spasming, tight muscle. If you're having lots of trouble, one thing you can try (if you are flexible and don't have knee problems) is to get into a squatting position (even better in the bathtub). This helps relax the muscles of the pelvic floor and may help make it easier to pass the uncomfortable gas.

I was having that issue too, so I would lay on my side and pull my knees up to my midsection slightly. Then when I felt the gas coming, I wouldn't force it, I would let it slowly ease out with the smallest of pushes. Also, I found that with the use of the Rectiv ( Nitroglycerin) it relaxes the internal anal sphincter and that being in constant contraction and spasm could make it hard to release the gas. Raisin Bran will definitely create much gas, so mix it up a little. Fresh fruit and vegetables, trail mix, granola, Miralax, and lots of water and juice. :)
