Hello BootyMc, As I stated earlier, I had a feeling that they were going to be able to do the procedure. I've never heard of that term, "fulgaration". Maybe that's because I haven't had LIS...yet. Today was my most painful since this started so I'm sure that it's not far off. Congratulations on getting through the procedure and I'm glad that you're feeling ok so far. I hope that I have that courage when my time comes. Keep us updated as you can, and once again congratulations. Now let the healing begin.

Yeah man I'd be happy to compare notes with you. That's so funny that we would've been going through basically the same thing at almost the exact same time. Dunno about you, but I'm still just sort of slipping into and out of sleep, very tired from all the excitement I guess. Hope we both wake up to an even better day tomorrow. Cheers!

LIS follow-up

Postby BootyMcOuchersons » 14 May 2013, 10:23

Day2: I woke up at 5:30 a.m. With some mild burning pain. Got up, urinated, patted dry, some light blood on wipes. Took another pain pill, 5mg hydrocodon. Went back to bed.
When I woke up at 8:00, I felt a lot of pressure. I wasn't sure if it was gas or need to take a BM. My boyfriend got up and made a smoothie for me, and a half cup of coffee. Bingo! The BM wasn't bad at all while I was going. It was soft and not a lot of quantity (wish there had been more). Wiping is tricky. I just patted and dabbed, then got in the bath. When I got out I used Davo's hair dryer method of getting all dry down there, on the cool setting of course.
My CRS nurse called and I got to ask her all the questions I had. She said my doc described my fissure as impressive! Very large, and he cauderized it (fulgaration) which is my source of burning pain I guess. She said it'd be 4 or 5 days of this due to the large size of it, that it should take longer than the average fissure to heal due to that. Lucky me.
I looked at it in a mirror. There is already some visible bruising and it's puffy looking. I can see where the fissure is/was. It's kind of blackish, and bleeding a little.
The pain I feel is a mild burning and I'd rate it a 5 out of 10. Definitely not as bad as the pain I was in before the procedure. It's similar to how your anus feels after diarrhea, maybe a little sharper but very tolerable.
So, that where I'm at midday, the day after my LIS.
Not bad.
Oh, and the nurse gave me a great tip: I have wipes (Prep H wipes and Cottonelle) which seem to burn a little. She said to rinse them with water before using.

Hello BootyMc, Thanks for the update. All in all it sounds as though things aren't too bad so soon after the LIS surgery. Have you had any trouble with urination so far? I've read that it can be a problem after LIS sometimes. How many pain pills do you take daily? I'll have to read Davo's hairdryer method, I can't help but to think that cleaning can be a problem. I'll try to remember the tip about rinsing the wipes before using. I haven't set a date yet for the LIS, but I know that it's not far off. I hope that I can handle it as well as you. I hope that your healing continues. Thanks again for the update!

George, things really aren't too bad. Not anywhere near what I anticipated. (Knocking on wood!) I was able to urinate right away. I don't know if there is a difference between men and women in this regard. I'd guess its easier for you men, because there wouldn't be any urine dripping down to the anus. I've been doing all I can to keep that to a minimum.
You should read Davo's diary of his experience. It's hilarious. I literally laughed til I had tears. I believe it's in this area of the forum, the LIS surgery topic. If I can figure out how to link u to it, I will.
I've been taking a pill to 1.5 pills every 5 hours or so. I'm amazed how controlled my pain is. If you are suffering like I was, schedule the LIS. My fear was tremendous, and now I'm so relived, even tho I still have a long way to go.

I'm so glad to hear that you're feeling well. Up until about a week ago I felt ok, now it's seems that it's not getting any better as it's done in the past. I've read some horror stories on here and it's weirded my out a bit, especially since I only have one week off until July. If I wait until July I'll be able to take two weeks off which is part of why I'm trying to hold off. From what I've read, I'm not even sure that two weeks are enough. That, plus the stories of people suffering long after their surgery! Were you given any restrictions when you were discharged from the hospital as far as driving, walking, climbing stairs etc? Did the schedule you for a follow up appointment? I'm so glad to see someone doing so well after LIS; I hope that you continue to do well. Please keep updating if you can. Thanks. :)

Booty, sounds like you and I are basically on the same path at this point. Hope the both of us can hold steady and heal up. Keep it going! Image
George, I understand your hesitation. A lot of my fear came from not knowing how the surgery would go. I've seen some horror stories here and elsewhere, but talking to my surgeon, he seemed very relaxed about the whole thing. I'd say take your time and make sure you've got somebody you can trust and you know you want the operation. I don't know how long you'll need to get back to work, but personally I'm glad I've got a full two weeks before I go back in. Either way you go, best of luck to you man!

Hello Ozark, It seems that you and BootMc are off to a good start following your surgery. I'm glad for both of you. I'm not real thrilled with my C.R.S. because he doesn't seem to take this very seriously. He says that it's a 20 minute procedure, the risks are minimal and the majority of people are healed within 3 weeks. I've mentioned my concern about having Irritable Bowel Syndrome and how I often have four bowel movements per day but he just says that if the GI specialist can't help me then I'll have to just deal with it. That's why I'm so uptight about this and would like to wait until July so I have the second week to rest. Thanks to both of you for the updates following surgery, it's a huge help to me while I try to get prepared to set the date.
